Senior Software Engineer (Belfast)
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team in Belfast, where you’ll help develop cutting-edge digital solutions that transform modern dairy farming.

About the Role
Our Senior Software Engineer will design, build, and maintain scalable digital tools that empower dairy farmers globally.
At the core of our work is a farm management system—helping farmers optimise yields, reduce waste, and streamline operations through intelligent software.
You’ll work alongside a dedicated development team (part of the GEAdigital Hub) to deliver robust, user-friendly applications for a sector steadily embracing digital transformation.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Software Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include:

Develop and Enhance Key Features
- Design and implement high-quality software solutions that solve real-world challenges for dairy farmers and farm managers.
- Contribute to the full software development lifecycle (analysis, design, development, testing, deployment).

Ownership & Accountability
- Ensure clean, maintainable, and production-ready code.
- Take full ownership of assigned features or modules with minimal supervision.

Customer & Technical Support
- Work closely with customers, technicians, and end-users to address queries and refine product function.
- Provide guidance to users and help ensure smooth software adoption.

Quality & Performance
- Apply structured testing (unit, integration, system-level) and best-practice optimisation to deliver highly reliable software.
- Monitor and adjust systems to ensure performance, scalability, and uptime.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with developers, testers, product managers, and business stakeholders to define, build, and refine solutions.
- Participate in agile ceremonies (stand-ups, refines, retrospectives) to drive iterative development.
Requirements
We’re looking for a self-motivated, experienced developers who thrive in supportive yet fast-paced environments.
You should have:
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven experience in web application development (frontend and/or backend).
- In-depth knowledge of databases (preferably PostgreSQL) and cloud platforms (Azure or AWS).
- Strong focus on code quality, reproducibility, testing, and debugging.
- Clean coding standards and design patterns (OOP, SOLID principles).
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to debug complex systems.
- A team-first mindset, with a willingness to mentor junior engineers and stimulate collaboration.
- Occasional international travel (flexibility required for occasional meetings or sprints).
- Proficiency in English (both written and spoken).
