The Role
This is a high-impact individual contributor role at StrideUp, reporting into our Engineering Manager. You will be a key member of the engineering function, playing a critical role in building the systems that power our mission.
A central part of this role is the intelligent use of technology to raise product quality and development velocity. We are looking for an engineer who is highly motivated and driven to improve the efficiency of our delivery. We believe the key to scaling is using technology more intelligently, you will be our internal expert on how we leverage the latest advancements to stay ahead.
This is not a management role, but it is a role of immense influence. You will be at the cutting edge of code production, championing the adoption of AI-supported development and automation where applicable. You aren't just a user of these tools, you have a high level of awareness regarding the benefits and risks of agentic tooling, ensuring we innovate safely and effectively.

What You'll Do
Act as a high-impact IC, delivering clean, maintainable, and robust code across our entire stack to support our ethical finance platform Drive the efficiency of our delivery by identifying bottlenecks and implementing automation or AI-supported workflows to streamline the path from idea to production Champion and implement the adoption of AI-supported development tools, evaluating their efficacy and ensuring the team understands both the productivity gains and the security/quality risks Collaborate closely with Product and Leadership to translate commercial objectives into technically sound, deliverable plans that maintain our high standards for quality Set and uphold engineering standards across code quality, testing, CI/CD, and architecture, acting as a beacon for technical excellence within the team Step in on the most challenging deliveries, providing the technical "heavy lifting" required to solve complex architectural or performance issues

Proven Technical Depth: Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and Java/Kotlin, NestJS, React, and PostgreSQL or MongoDB Infrastructure Fluency: Hands-on experience with AWS, Docker, Terraform, and modern CI/CD pipelines AI-Supported Development: A deep, practical understanding of how to use AI and automation to accelerate code production, with a clear-eyed view of the associated risks (security, hallucinations, maintainability) Quality Obsession: A track record of significantly improving the quality and velocity of delivery in a fast-paced environment Commercially Minded: Ability to connect technical choices to business outcomes, specifically within the context of ethical finance and regulated environments
Bonus
Previous experience in FinTech, the lending industry, and/or an FCA-regulated firm Experience with complex financial ledger systems
