Senior Software Engineer
**Senior Software Engineer, Microservices – Identity
Location & Contract
Location: Remote role (UK-based) Contract Type: Permanent
About the Role
The Senior Software Engineer, Microservices – Identity will work within an Identity-focused team, developing both new and existing microservices and APIs.
This senior-level role demands:
- A collaborative and ownership-driven approach, particularly in diagnosing and resolving production issues proactively.
- The ability to bridge bilateral teams and business domains to drive system coherence.
The Stack
Our architecture leverages the following stack:
- Development:*
- Java, Node.js
- ReactJS, Spring Boot
- Auth0 for security (API authentication & authorisation)
- GraphQL (Apollo server), RESTful APIs
- AWS: IAM, NoSQL (DynamoDB), Lambda, SQS, SNS
- DevOps & Automation:
- Infrastructure as code (IaC) with GitLab CI pipelines
- Docker for containerisation & CI/CD management
- Observability:
- Datadog for introspection & monitoring
- Postman (API development/testing)
Key Responsibilities
Technical Core:
- Building Identity APIs: Design and maintain REST and GraphQL services adhering to security standards.
- "Shifting ownership" mentality: Assuming a leadership role in diagnosing, prioritising, and scaling solutions during system incidents/outages.
- Multilingual collaboration: Engaging with cross-functional teams (DevOps, QA, product) via clear, technical communication.
- Mentorship: Guiding junior engineers, upholding code standards, and facilitating peer reviews.

Cloud & DevOps Excellence:
- AWS expertise: Full-cycle deployments (lambda, DynamoDB, IAM) with a focus on serverless architectures.
- DevOps maturity: Integrate infrastructure automation into GitLab pipelines to achieve seamless deployments.
- Data management: Handle high-scale relational (MySQL, Enterprise Oracle) and NoSQL databases.
Requirements & Preferences
Baseline Qualifications:
✔ Minimum 10 years in IT (software development/engineering) with a focus on backend development and system integration. ✔ Hands-on experience with the following tooling/languages:
Technologies (Must-Have):
- Framework: A deep understanding of Spring Boot/EcHD, Spring Cloud, and Spring Security.
- Backend: Java or Node.js for API development.
- Authentication: Especially Auth0.
- Cloud: Large-scale deployments on AWS.
- CI/CD: Proven experience with Docker, Kubernetes integration, and GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
- Databases: Proficiency in relational (MySQL, Oracle) and NoSQL (DynamoDB, Redis).
- Observability: Experience with Datadog, Postman, and GraphQL tooling.
