Senior Software Engineer – Currencycloud at Visa

About the Role
Currencycloud, acquired by Visa in December 2021, relies on Senior Software Engineers to build and evolve its industry-leading API, which has processed over 50 billion USD in cross-border transactions for 5+ million end users, operating 24×7.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of shaping technical direction, designing architecture, and ensuring our platform meets the demands of global, scalable growth.
We operate on AWS, using Kubernetes, a microservices-based architecture, Kafka for streaming, and PACT for contract testing.
What You’ll Get to Do
- Play a key leadership role in your cross-functional squad
- Maintain and expand new parts of our Payments Platform, focusing on high availability, cloud-native, and microservices concepts
- Lead technical discussions on architecture and systems design
- Mentor junior team members and guide project direction

Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in Java backend development, ideally with:
- Deep knowledge of functional Java (8+) and Spring Boot
- Expertise in cloud & DevOps practices:
- Proven experience with AWS (public cloud), Docker, EKS
- Hands-on experience with Kafka, microservices, event-driven architecture
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, testing automation (TDD/BDD/Contract testing)
- Collaboration skills:
- Ability to bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience advocating for scale-up agility (Spotify model), DevOps, MSA
- Mindset & Leadership:
- Pragmatic problem solver with a distributed ownership approach
- Comfortable with large-scale systems, observability, and fault tolerance
- Challenger mindset: willing to question the status quo and coach others
- Soft Skills:
- Strong communication (written/verbal), with technical precision
- Independent, accountable, and solution-driven
