Job Description
Ready to shape solutions that make a real impact? Join a team where your ideas drive progress and your growth truly matters. At EDF, Success is Personal. As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll help build reliable, customer-focused technology that supports millions of people on their net zero journey and powers the future of energy.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll work at the heart of our product teams – designing, building, and improving software that helps customers access low-carbon energy solutions. You'll play a key role in shaping secure, scalable services that help drive our transition towards An Electric Britain.
Our software development team is the engine of our business – and it's growing fast. Whether you're a Senior Full-stack Software Engineer, or a Front-end, Back-End, or somewhere-in-between Senior Software Developer, EDF is a home for creative innovators, free-thinkers, and #ConsultantsWhoCode.
You'll join us on a salary starting at circa £75,000 per annum, depending on experience. This role supports predominantly home-based working, with flexibility to work remotely most of the time. There will be occasional travel to one of our offices in London, Hove, or Exeter, typically once or twice per quarter, or more frequently if preferred.
You'll get hands-on experience across the software lifecycle, from discovery through to deployment. With opportunities to mentor colleagues, explore new tools, contribute to engineering standards, and help shape technical direction, you'll continue to grow your expertise while delivering digital services that matter to our customers.
Across smart meters, heating, and electric vehicles, EDF's Customers business is helping to shape a smarter, energy-saving future. We're proud to be a Sunday Times Best Places to Work Top 10 Very Big Organisation for two years running and a Highly Commended workplace for disabled employees.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
