Senior Software Engineer

Senior Software Engineer (Digital Dairy Solutions) – Belfast

Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland Contract Type: Hybrid (commuting distance required)

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our cutting-edge digital team in Belfast, where you’ll help build smart, intuitive solutions for modern dairy farming—ensuring dairy farmers and industry leaders have the tools they need to succeed.

About the Role & Our Team

  • We are part of the GEAdigital Hub, exclusively focused on developing world-class digital solutions for the global dairy industry.
  • Our in-house cross-functional team collaborates with industry experts, developers, and testing professionals to build scalable, high-quality software.
  • We’re constructing a cutting-edge farm management system—empowering dairy farmers, agronomists, and technology integrators worldwide.
  • Our technology stack includes:
    • Backend: Java, Spring Framework, PostgreSQL
    • Frontend: TypeScript, Angular
    • DevOps & Tools: Docker, Azure DevOps, Git, Jenkins, SonarQube, Nexus

Key Responsibilities

  • Feature Development & Enhancement
    • Design and implement software solutions that improve farm management efficiency for global dairy operations.
    • Write clean, maintainable, and scalable code that adheres to industry best practices.

  • Take Ownership of Development Lifecycle

    • Oversee planning, execution, testing, and deployment of digital product iterations in alignment with business goals.
    • Ensure high-quality software delivery through rigorous testing, CI/CD pipelines, and automation.
  • Customer & Technical Support

    • Collaborate directly with dairy farmers, technicians, and end-users to gather requirements and troubleshoot challenges.
  • Drive Quality & Performance

    • Ensure security, optimisation, and real-world reliability in every database and application layer.
    • Contribute to process improvements using SonarQube, Jenkins, and other DevOps tools.
  • Cross-Functional Team Collaboration

    • Work closely with UI/UX designers, DevOps engineers, QA teams, and product managers to meet project deadlines.
    • Mentor junior developers and foster a cooperative knowledge-sharing culture.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education:

    • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
    • Proven understanding of scalable systems architecture in agricultural or industrial software.
  • Technical Abilities:

    • Strong experience in web application development (preferably with Java & TypeScript).
    • Proficient in database technologies (PostgreSQL) and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
    • Hands-on experience with DevOps tools (Docker, Jenkins, Git, Azure DevOps).
    • Knowledge of software assurance & code quality analysis (SonarQube recommended).
