We acquired Currencycloud in December 2021. Our Senior Software Engineers play a pivotal role in scaling an industry-leading API that has processed over 50 billion USD in cross-border transactions for 5 million+ end users, ensuring 24×7 availability.
As Visa continues to expand, your technological leadership will drive architectural innovation, support scaling demands, and ensure a seamless global platform.
Our stack is built on AWS, leveraging distributed applications with Kubernetes and a microservices architecture. We also use Kafka for real-time streaming and PACT for contract testing.
What You’ll Do
As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll:
- Own and develop services within your squad, maintaining and building new features on our Payments Platform with a focus on high availability, cloud-native, and scalable microservices.
- Lead technical discussions on architecture, design, and system responsible engineering while mentoring junior team members.
- Ensure independent, fast-moving paths to production with robust support and real business impact.

Core Technologies
- Languages: Object-oriented Java (11+), functional programming
- Frameworks: Spring Boot (preferred)
- Scalability & Cloud: AWS (public cloud) – distributed, 12-factor compliant, microservices-based applications
- Infrastructure: Terraform, Kubernetes (EKS), Docker
- Streaming: Kafka for event-driven workflows
- Testing: TDD, BDD, Contract Testing (PACT)
- Persistence: SQL databases configured for high-read workloads
- Observability & Monitoring: Elasticsearch, log management, Datadog APM
- API Development: OpenAPI (Swagger) for consistent, scalable interfaces
Development & Deployment
- CI/CD: Fully automated pipelines for consistent delivery.
- Code Review: Strong GitHub PR processes for knowledge sharing and quality assurance.
- Agile Methodologies: Adherence to the Spotify Squads & Tribes model for iterative product improvements.
- DevOps & Co-Ownership: Full accountability and limited reliance on separate ops teams—consume as well as contribute.
Collaboration & Stakeholders
- Work closely with Product Owners, QA, and cross-team dependencies.
- Foster continuous improvement through technical equality, transparency, and shared ownership.
About the Role (Hybrid Position)

Requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years experience in Java Backend Development
- Strong functional programming in Java (preferably with Spring Boot)
- Agile & DevOps mindset (Scrum/Kanban, CI/CD, automation)
- Cloud Architecture: Expertise with AWS (EC/eks IAM, service discovery, networking DNA) and Kubernetes
- Integration Skills: Deep understanding of Kafka/Kinesis for real-time flows
- Interoperability: Familiarity with PACT Contract Testing
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Ability to communicate effectively with technical and business stakeholders, including Product Managers, QA, and Infrastructure teams
- Problem-Solving: Proven track record of well-tested, fault-tolerant solutions and pragmatic decision-making
- Adaptability: Thrives in a fast-growing, agile environment (start-up/scale-up mindset)
