Start Date: ASAP
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help design, build, and scale the live trading systems at the heart of our business.
Quantile Energy is a technology-led energy trading company operating in one of the fastest-moving markets in the world. Every day, we commit significant amounts of real capital based on signals generated from live power system data. Those signals aren't based on clicks, adverts or user behaviour - they're built from tangible, physical events happening across the electricity grid. Power stations trip offline. Wind output changes. Demand shifts. Batteries charge and discharge. Interconnectors flow between countries. Every one of these events creates opportunities that exist for minutes, sometimes only seconds.
Our competitive edge comes from turning huge volumes of real-time data into actionable trading decisions faster and more accurately than anyone else. That means ingesting high-frequency market and grid data, transforming it into robust trading signals, and delivering those signals into highly automated execution systems capable of operating at scale with exceptional reliability.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll build the platforms that make this possible. You'll design distributed systems that process millions of data points, develop low-latency data pipelines, and create infrastructure that traders rely on every day to deploy capital in live markets. Performance, resilience and scalability aren't nice-to-haves—they directly influence trading outcomes and commercial success.
If you're excited by solving hard engineering problems where milliseconds matter, where software interacts with physical infrastructure, and where the systems you build have a measurable impact on real-world decisions and real financial outcomes, you'll fit right in.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
Graduate Consultant — 2026 Scheme
Why you're a good match
StrongYour economics background and your summer at a regional bank line up with what PwC looks for on the consulting scheme. Applications close in four weeks.

Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
No black boxes, no hand-waving—just crisp analysis, robust infrastructure, and full accountability. Every decision is logged, every outcome analysed.
We aim to automate everything—from strategy execution to risk management and operational workflows—so our team can focus on what matters: finding new opportunities, building better systems, and making smarter decisions.
How We Work
We're based in our office in central Oxford, and we typically spend three days a week working together there—we find that time side by side makes collaboration faster, ideas sharper, and the work more enjoyable.
Beyond that, we trust people to manage their time and work autonomously. Flexibility is part of how we work, but so is accountability. We're building a culture where people are empowered, connected, and focused on outcomes.
Not sure if you tick every box? That's okay. If you're excited by what we're doing and ready to learn fast, we'd love to hear from you—even if you're not a perfect match.
What You'll Do
- Build reliable, production-grade systems in Python—our primary language across the stack, from data and strategy code to operational tooling.
- Contribute to our intraday trading engine, written in Rust—order management, exchange connectivity, market data handling, and risk controls.
- Lead the engineering work to extend our platform from the GB market into France and beyond.
- Develop and maintain real-time data pipelines (RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, DuckDB), infrastructure (including Kubernetes and ArgoCD), and cloud deployment tooling.
- Collaborate with Quant Traders to turn strategy ideas into robust, deployed systems.
- Set a high bar for engineering quality through testing, observability, and systems that fail safely.
- Automate the messy, manual parts of running a trading operation.
What You Might Bring
You don't need to tick every box—but here are some things that will help you succeed in the role.
Must Haves
- Software Engineering Experience: Proven track record of building and operating production-grade systems.
- Domain Curiosity: An interest in energy markets or algorithmic trading.
- Ownership & Collaboration: A proactive, collaborative working style, comfortable partnering closely with both traders and engineers, and taking full ownership of the systems you build.
- Python: With a focus on writing clear, maintainable, and tested code - this is where most of your day-to-day work will be.
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Experience with modern deployment tooling and cloud-based infrastructure.
- Databases: Practical experience designing and evolving database schemas, including managing migrations with tools like Alembic.
- Monitoring & Reliability: Experience with observability, production monitoring, debugging live issues, and designing systems that fail safely.

Nice to Haves
- Systems Engineering Language: Proficiency with systems-level programming languages like Rust.
- Message Queuing: Experience working with high-throughput message queuing systems.
- Observability Stack: Familiarity with modern observability stacks and distributed tracing.
- High-Performance Systems: Experience building real-time, latency-sensitive platforms, such as exchange connectivity or streaming data pipelines.
- Data Engineering: Experience engineering systems in real-time to query historical data in a point-in-time fashion.
Who This Role Might Suit
This role is well suited to experienced engineers from a range of backgrounds, including:
- Software Engineers who have built and operated live trading or exchange-connected systems.
- Backend or Systems Engineers with experience in high-reliability, data-intensive environments.
- Quantitative Developers from finance looking for broader ownership of production systems.
If you've worked in any of these areas—and are excited by the idea of building the systems behind a profitable, expanding trading business—we'd love to hear from you.
Shared Success
Everyone on the team is eligible for our Employee Share Option Plan (ESOP), so you share in the long-term success you help create.
We're building for the long term and want people who are in it with us.
