Senior Software Engineer (Backend)
Join Apron’s Engineering Team—Shaping the Future of SMB Payments
About Apron
Apron is revolutionising how small businesses (SMBs) manage payments. Founded in 2021, we address a critical gap: the inefficient, manual systems that slow down cash flow—a major threat to business survival. Our mission? To digitise and simplify the entire payments ecosystem—capturing invoices, issuing expense cards, facilitating bill payments, and streamlining receipts—all in one platform.
We’ve grown rapidly, employing ~100 team members across the UK, Germany, Spain, and beyond, backed by ventures like Index Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, Zinal Grow, and Tony Fadell. With a $50m funding round, we’re not just scaling—we’re defining the future of global fintech.
About Our Engineering Culture
Engineering is at the core of Apron’s success. Here’s what drives us:
- Customer obsession: Every product is designed to elevate real-world business challenges.
- Ownership: From planning to prototyping, you’ll execute on complex problems.
- Finance mastery: Navigating business logic intricacies—prerequisite for precision, security, and scalability.
- Code with pride: Speed meets maintainability; our platforms must be fast, secure, and ready for the long term.
- AI integration: Leverage cutting-edge tools to build efficiency and smarts into our systems.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
