Software Engineer (Backend) – Documentation Engineering Team
About the Role
The documentation engineering team at Apple is focused on creating cutting-edge developer tools and framework-level support for the documentation workflows on our developer website and Xcode. We’re looking for a Software Engineer to join our backend team, where you’ll help scale and enhance our existing technology, as well as innovate on new products, infrastructure, and tooling.
This opportunity lets you join a highly motivated team of engineers who prioritise collaboration and building highly reliable backend systems. Our team is diverse, dynamic, and passionate about the products we create.
You'll:
- Work closely with a small but impactful team.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration across multiple departments at Apple.
- Mentor other engineers through code review, architecture discussions, and design proposals.
- Continuously drive system improvements.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain highly tested, performant, and reliable code across our systems.
- Actively participate in code review, pair programming, and technical discussions.
- Collaborate with other Apple teams to ensure seamless integration of tools and systems.
- Write detailed architecture and design proposals.
- Proactively identify and implement improvements to existing workflows.

Minimum Qualifications
- Experience shipping high-quality, performant, and reliable web applications.
- A passion for developing scalable products and innovative features.
- Ability to discuss technical trade-offs across application development, system architecture, database design, API design, and infrastructure.
- A curious and growth-oriented mindset, with a commitment to continuous self-improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Informatics, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience with:
- Frameworks: Ruby, Rails.
- Databases: Cassandra, PostgreSQL.
- Containers and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes.
- Proficiency in test-driven development (TDD), as well as continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD).
- Familiarity with Apple technologies, specifically Xcode and Swift, though not strictly required.
