Your mission involves leveraging AI to optimize cloud reliability. The Cloud Reliability team builds the infrastructure and tooling that ensures Confluent Cloud remains reliable, secure, and scalable. This role focuses on an AI-powered operations assistant that enables agentic workflows for incident investigation and troubleshooting, unifying industry-leading operational data into an enhanced experience that helps engineers resolve issues faster.

We’re seeking engineers passionate about AI and its applications in large-scale operational problems. This role allows you to work across multiple domains, including agentic systems and tool design, large language model integration, scalability, security, and evaluation strategies. Participating in a world-class support system means contributing to a smart operations engine that supports Confluent teams globally.
What You Will Do
- Design, build, and operate an AI-powered operations system relied upon by Confluent engineers for incident investigation and troubleshooting.
- Develop secure integrations that enable AI systems to query operational data and take automated actions across Confluent’s infrastructure.
- Construct agentic workflows and reasoning loops, optimizing their accuracy, latency, and reliability over time.
- Build evaluation frameworks and feedback loops to measure and continuously improve AI-generated investigations.
- Strengthen security and access controls, including least-privilege access models and comprehensive auditing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to convert operational expertise into automated, AI-powered workflows.

Requirements
Preferred Education
- Master’s Degree
Required Technical & Professional Expertise
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, with production system experience.
- Python proficiency (essential).
- Experience integrating large language models into real-world applications.
- A product-minded approach—embracing ambiguous challenges and iterating rapidly.
- Self-directed, analytical problem-solving skills for a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Experience
- Agentic systems, LLM tool use, or retrieval-augmented application (RAG) development.
- Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) or similar tool-integration frameworks.
- Designing evaluation and quality measurement for AI-driven systems.
- Background in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure (e.g., Kubernetes), or operational tooling.
- Security and access control expertise for systems that interact with production environments.
