Senior Software Engineer - AI-Assisted Legacy Medernisation
Outside IR35 - Contract (Insurance Client)
About the role
Softwire is helping our client modernise a business-critical legacy platform, moving it off Oracle Forms and onto a modern React and .NET stack, with the underlying Oracle database migrating to Azure SQL. We're looking for a strong full-stack contract developer to join the existing team and drive this migration forward. What sets this role apart is that the use of AI tools is the main focus, not a nice-to-have. You'll use tools such as Claude to accelerate the translation of Oracle Forms logic into the new stack and to support the database migration. We want someone who already works this way day to day and can show how AI changes the pace and quality of their delivery.

Key Responsibilities
Work alongside our team to migrate the legacy product onto a React / .NET architecture, keeping pace with the team's Jira workflow. Use AI tools (e.g. Claude) to accelerate migration of Oracle Forms screens and logic into the new front- and back-end stack. Support the migration of the Oracle database to Azure SQL, including data model and query translation. Build and maintain robust, testable React front-end components and .NET back-end services. Collaborate closely with the wider team - small, frequent pull requests, early flagging of blockers, and proactive communication on progress.
Required Skills & Experience
Strong full-stack experience with React (front end) and .NET (back end). Solid SQL skills and experience with Azure SQL or SQL Server. Proven ability to get productive quickly in an unfamiliar codebase and to keep pace with an established delivery team. Comfortable working in an iterative, ticket-driven environment with clear, frequent communication.

Nice to Have
Experience with Oracle Forms (or other legacy 4GL / forms-based platforms). Prior experience on legacy modernisation or platform migration projects. Experience migrating data from Oracle to Azure SQL.
£550-610 per day outside IR35
Start date: 01/07/2026 End date: 31/10/2026
