About the role
We are building a next-generation platform for one of the UK's leading financial services providers — trusted by over 2 million clients and managing approximately £150 billion in assets. This is a unique opportunity to help shape technology that changes how people invest and achieve financial freedom.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Dealing Journeys squad, delivering critical capabilities at the heart of the investment experience. You will join our Trading Tribe — a domain responsible for end-to-end investment journeys, from pre-trade decision-making and order placement through to trade execution, delivering fast, reliable and seamless investing experiences at scale.
In this role, you will design and build modern software solutions using technologies such as React, React Native and AWS, contributing to distributed, highly available platforms serving millions of clients. As a senior engineer, you will help drive technical excellence, champion ownership and continuous improvement, and collaborate closely with engineers, product managers and stakeholders to solve complex business and technical challenges.

What you'll do
- Design, build and maintain high-quality software across web, mobile and backend services, adhering to team, security and regulatory standards
- Review code and provide constructive feedback to maintain engineering excellence and consistency across the codebase
- Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers and designers to deliver significant new capabilities for our clients
- Develop and enhance customer-facing experiences using React and React Native, while contributing to the APIs and services that power them
- Support and improve existing applications, ensuring they remain reliable, secure, performant and maintainable
- Design and implement scalable, cloud-native solutions running on AWS
- Develop automated tests and contribute to quality engineering practices throughout the software lifecycle
- Maintain awareness of modern security and secure coding practices, ensuring solutions meet industry and regulatory standards
- Document solutions and architectural decisions to agreed team standards
- Champion continuous improvement in engineering practices, tooling and developer experience
- Build strong working relationships across the squad and wider engineering organisation
- Actively participate in communities of practice, technical discussions and knowledge-sharing initiatives
- Continuously develop both technical and interpersonal skills while helping others do the same

What you bring
- 5+ years of professional experience building modern applications with TypeScript and React
- Strong understanding of modern frontend architecture, including large-scale application decomposition, state management, separation of concerns and performance optimisation
- Solid knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript/TypeScript
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs and/or GraphQL services
- Experience contributing to backend services and APIs, with an understanding of distributed systems and microservice architectures
- Experience building and operating applications in AWS
- Strong understanding of software design patterns, testing strategies and engineering best practices
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
- Experience delivering accessible applications, including WCAG compliance and keyboard navigation support
- Strong focus on writing secure, maintainable and well-tested code
- Collaborative and communicative, with the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams
- Solution-oriented and pragmatic, balancing technical excellence with business outcomes
- A continuous improvement mindset and a passion for learning new technologies and approaches
- Comfortable working in Agile environments and contributing to technical and architectural discussions
Nice to have
- Experience developing mobile applications with React Native
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes and cloud-native development practices
- Experience working with PHP applications and services
- Experience developing applications using Java

You'll take ownership of complex features from concept to production, collaborate effectively across disciplines, and help deliver reliable, scalable and intuitive investment experiences while raising engineering standards across the team.
