Senior Platform Software Engineer
Exciting Opportunity in Baringa’s Global Platform Team
Join our Power and Low Carbon Solutions practice to help architect, implement, and support the next-generation data platform—a foundational tool that will revolutionise how Baringa models, processes, and utilises critical energy data.
We’ve reached a stage where our platform must scale with confidence: automating compliance checks, streamlining data workflows, and ensuring cross-functional teams can work efficiently and securely. This role gives you ownership to define the future, influencing an engineering culture that celebrates problem-solving, transparency, and relentless curiosity.
Key Purpose
To join a small, curve-defining Platform team, where curiosity and problem-solving will challenge you daily. Your role is to:
- Design and build the new data platform and associated tools, translating accumulated energy modelling needs into a seamless, scalable operational paragraph. There’s substantial freedom to choose technologies and frameworks where appropriate.
- Co-author the tech vision alongside the Engineering Lead, considering legacy integrations, security, governance, and governance expectations.
- Coordinate between energy specialists, engineering, and clients to ensure the platform fully supports the business mission— transition to a low carbon future.
- Develop DevOps practices with robust CI/CD to enforce quality and reliability. The performance and success of our teams will benefit.

What You’ll Be Doing
Core Responsibilities
- Work as a core member of the new Platform Team, collaborating closely with the Engineering Lead in:
- Designing and architecting a greenfield data platform, from foundational stack components.
- Defining standards, automation, and processes to ensure quality and compliance.
- Driving front-end development for internal dashboards/plugins and back-end APIs.
- Pro championing DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines.
- Engage extensively with energy modellers, tool developers and internal users to:
- Fully understand requirements and iterate on solutions.
- Build an integrated end-to-end experience for analysts and operators.
- Collaborate with the team via agile methodology, including:
- Refining and prioritising backlogs,
- Driving continuous process improvements.
- Demonstrating features in regular releases.

What We’re Looking For
Your Skills & Experience
- Passion for purpose: Commitment to building fit-for-purpose solutions.
- Engineering brain: If a requirement is difficult—or seem self-contradictory—you’ll solve it. Experienced in metamorphic or heuristically evolving the right technical stack for a challenge.
- Advanced general programming: Proficient in a relevant language (e.g. Scala, Python, C++).
- Data-centric expertise: Expertise with data platforms (SQL/NoSQL, Spark/ Databricks) and eeny frameworks (ES, Kafka, etc.).
- Familiarity with front-end and back-end technologies (React/ Angular, Spring/Django etc.).
- Experience with modern tools: Git workflows, cloud environments (Azure/AWS), Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform).
- Demolished experience working in agile environments, pushing delivery while upholding rigorous development standards.
- Soft skills: Top-tier communication across skillsets—transforming complex problems into intuitive value delivery.
