Senior Software Engineer, Risk Development (London)

Our client's Risk Development team sits embedded inside the Risk function, building the platform that portfolio managers and risk takers run on. Over the past year the team has put AI into production as core infrastructure. Systems that automatically explain portfolio drawdowns and volatility are in daily use across the firm. This is not a research initiative or a proof of concept. It works, it ships, and they are now scaling it.

The team

A small senior team across London and New York, working closely with the wider Risk function. Small enough that your work is visible, senior enough that you will learn from your peers, and embedded enough that you will see the impact of what you ship the same week you ship it.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'll do

  • Design and build data pipelines and real-time applications at the heart of the firm's risk platform
  • Evolve the platform for real-time processing and scale-out as the business grows
  • Work directly with risk managers, portfolio managers and quants. No delivery layer, no ticket queue between you and the people using what you build
  • Mentor junior engineers and raise the bar on engineering practice across the wider Risk team
  • Use AI as part of daily development: code generation and AI-assisted review are how this team works, applied with judgement rather than hype.

What they're looking for

  • 5+ years of engineering experience, with production systems you have designed, built and run yourself
  • Strong programming skills in at least one language, plus SQL
  • Experience with distributed systems and messaging (Kafka, Kinesis or similar), containers and cloud (Kubernetes, Docker), and workflow orchestration (Airflow, Dagster or similar
  • Data engineering depth: pipelines, warehousing, ETL patterns, Lakehouse systems
  • A communicator. A large part of this role is working with stakeholders, and the team cares as much about how you explain trade-offs as how you code
  • A self-starter. The team runs lean by design, management is hands-off, and you will choose your own priorities.
