About the Role Join us as part of our team to help us create an entirely new network for the world’s money—where min fees meet max ease.
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Account Integrity team, working in a high-impact, product-focused role where you’ll tackle complex adversarial problems to safeguard our global customer base.

About the Role
You’ll play a pivotal role on the Account Integrity team, leading efforts to protect our platform against sophisticated financial crime. Utilising machine learning, real-time transaction monitoring, enterprise security architecture, and data analytics, we’re building systems that:
- To prevent fraud, scams, and account takeovers.
- Maintain a consistent compliance advantage over competitors.
- Scale globally as demands grow.

Core Responsibilities
You’ll be focused on building and refining our anti-fraud infrastructure, ensuring Wise’s mission remains secure.
- Design and develop critical controls for account protection, particularly against takeovers.
- Work 80% backend (Spring, JVM, Java, distributed systems) and 20% frontend (React, JavaScript/TypeScript) on detection and prevention tools.
- Deliver projects from conception to implementation, ensuring real-world impact by:
- Protecting customers’ assets.
- Increasing automation to accelerate growth.
- Engineering industry-leading money transfer capabilities.
What You’ll Bring
Required
- Proven experience developing large-scale applications using:
- Java or JVM-based languages, particularly the Spring framework.
- A mix of backend and frontend (ideal: React + JavaScript/TypeScript).
- Expertise in designing distributed and concurrent systems (distributed transactions, load-balancing, etc.).
- The ability to own product initiatives independently, making data-informed decisions that champion the customer.
- Strong data experience, including:
- Both relational and non-relational databases (query optimisation, resilient schemas).
- Uncompromising code quality with a proven ability to:
- Fast problem-solving.
- Strict adherence to test-driven development (TDD).
- Beste practices (clean code, maintainability, etc.).
- Technical communication skills to explain complex ideas clearly to diverse stakeholders, including Product, Data Science, and Investigations.

- Experience in the machine learning lifecycle:
- Building feature pipelines.
- Deploying ML models into production.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: £87,500 - £111,000 per year, inclusive of Restricted Share Units (RSUs).
