Job Title

This is a 12 month staff fixed term contract (maternity cover), remote working but based in the United Kingdom.

Contract start date is August ideally

About the Department

The Product Technology department operates across four multi-disciplinary delivery squads (engineering, design, QA, product). The Senior Software Engineer will join one squad, contributing to the design, development, and delivery of new products and experiences.

We use an iterative agile approach with continuous integration and delivery, supported by automated pipelines. Our systems run on modern cloud infrastructure (AWS), with a strong focus on quality practices and up-to-date technologies.

We empower engineers to take ownership of delivery and determine the best technical approach. Continuous learning, weekly innovation time, and a culture of respectful collaboration support strong relationships, open communication, and effective teamwork.

Job Description

What you’ll need to do to succeed

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of Insights' products and services and apply this knowledge during refinement, design, and building phases to ensure the correct features are developed.
  • Become part of a squad
    • Be an active member of an Insights cross discipline delivery squad
    • Attend and actively participate in the squad's Agile SCRUM ceremonies
    • Contribute towards refining and improving delivery processes within the squad
    • Share opinions, ideas, and experience regarding process, features and technical topics which may arise
  • Become part of a department
    • While you deliver within your squad, you should also actively contribute to initiatives that improve the department's overall delivery capabilities
    • Share your experience and actively engage in mentoring less experienced colleagues
    • Engage in cross-squad collaboration to solve shared technical challenges
    • Understand the impact of technical debt and take action to repay it
    • Participate in third-line application support and resolution of production issues
  • Apply technical experience
    • Design, develop, release and support robust, scalable and adaptable software
    • Collaborate with Technical Leads to design software architecture
    • Conduct code reviews and give respectful and constructive feedback
    • Contribute to the definition and improvement of development processes and policies
    • Write and maintain tests and contribute to expanding test suites
    • Provide appropriate documentation for solutions and promote the development knowledge base within the team

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Significant experience in modern Java (17+), Spring Framework(s) & Gradle or Maven
  • Experience with AWS & its managed services portfolio, or similar cloud platform
  • Experience in developing and delivering RESTful APIs
  • Working with & designing for an RDBMS (Postgres, MySQL, SQLServer, etc)
  • Very strong focus on automation through the entire engineering lifecycle (development, test & deployment)
  • Strong technical viewpoint supported by the implementation of robust, scalable, and successful solutions
  • Solid grasp of agile practices, as well as strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle complexity and adhere to project standards
  • Leading the use of the latest technologies to deliver cutting edge software
  • Mentoring and support others
