Job Description: Senior Software Engineer

Understanding the Role

We seek a Senior Software Engineer to join an agile team driving transformative, high-quality software solutions. This role demands your strategic thinking and technical prowess. You’ll design new features, resolve complex technical challenges, address legacy debt, and champion best practices. As a key figure, you’ll shape our engineering culture to deliver value and outstanding customer outcomes.

  • Code excellence: Rigorously review for functional/non-functional accuracy, testing security, performance, reliability, security, and competitive usability.

  • Mentor & grow talent: Foster professional development to enhance cooperation, resilience, and team creativity.

Roles & Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Analyse and architect production-grade systems for Java/JVM (Java 17+/Kotlin), Spring microservices or Node.js REST APIs.
  • Leverage JavaScript/TypeScript expertise to shape features, ensuring reliability and adaptability.

Architecture & Design

  • Apply clean code, layered architectures (three-tier, hexagonal, onion), and scalable solutions aligned with business goals such as quality and readability.

Database & Security

  • Partner with our database and cloud security teams to optimise APIs and safeguard data.

Testing & Observability

  • write, manage, and optimise tests. Consistent use of the testing pyramid: from unit tests to comprehensive user experience tests.
  • Ensure compatibility with Agile/Scrum through advanced Git, Git Flow, and CI/CD pipelines.

Stakeholder Alignment

  • Guide complex discussions, workshops, and alignment activities. Use your decision-making and process corridor strengths to optimize workflows.

Team & Culture Growth

  • Support & coach junior engineers through clear expectations, mentorship, and ongoing development.

Who We Look for in Candidates

Technical Proficiency

  • Java/JVM expertise: Hands-on experience building and maintaining large-scale production systems (Java 17+/Kotlin, **JVM Spring/**Node.js apps).
  • JavaScript & TypeScript: Explore full-stack or back-end possibilities utilizing frameworks like Angular.
  • Clean architecture: Proven expertise in layered designs to ensure scalable, quality-focused automations.
  • Databases & API design: Comprehensive knowledge of SQL databases, and asset optimisation with clear architecture security and cloud environments.
  • Testing practices: Fire unit tests and integration strategies, followed by Agile measurements.

Soft Skills

  • Strong English communicators able to influence large groups and lead technical/offsite discussions seamlessly.
  • Commitment to continuing learning, leading by thought-making, and advocating fair customer treatment.
