Job Description: Senior Software Engineer

Role Purpose:

Join a high-performing engineering team, contributing to robust, scalable software solutions designed to drive exceptional outcomes for our 12.8 million customers.

This role focuses on: ✔ Designing and building clean, scalable features ✔ Resolving technical challenges and business pain points ✔ Promoting continuous improvement in software quality, security, and engineering culture.

You’ll shape how the team operates, ensuring excellence in deliverables and customer impact.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Solution Design & Build:

    • Construct clean, maintainable software features
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve end-to-end issues, evaluating multiple technical approaches
  • Quality & Alignment:

    • Ensure solutions are fit for purpose, deliver business value, and adhere to technical standards
    • Contribute to maintaining secure, resilient systems by addressing technical debt management
  • Testing & User Experience:

    • Define and adopt test strategies that prioritise:
      • Security
      • Usability
      • Accessibility
      • Overall customer experience

Requirements (Qualifications & Experience)

Technical Proficiencies:

  • Large-scale production backend systems (preferably using Java 17+/Kotlin) with experience in:
    • Java/JVM ecosystems
    • Spring-based architectures or Node.js REST microservices
  • Frontend proficiency:
    • Deep knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript
    • Angular (or similar frameworks) experience (front-end or back-end focused)
  • Design philosophy:
    • Clean code, clean architecture, and layered backend patterns (e.g., three-tier, hexagonal or onion architecture)
    • Business-aligned engineering choices for scalability, quality, and maintenance
  • Database & Security:
    • Solid database (SQL + distributed systems) and API design proficiency
    • Applied knowledge of security best practices across web, API, and cloud environments
  • Development Practice:
    • Experience in optimisation to deliver reliable software
    • Track record of effectively resolving complex technical issues
    • Contributes clear, constructive code reviews
  • Testing & Agile Methods:
    • Strong advocate for test-driven development (TDD) and the testing pyramid
    • Experience in Agile/Scrum environments with Git, Git Flow, and CI/CD pipelines

Soft Skills & Accountability:

  • Strong communication in English and ability to facilitate:
    • Technical meetings
    • Workshops
    • Team alignment discussions
  • Proven ability for serious strategic decision-making, process thinking, and mentoring
  • Demonstrated ownership in continuous learning and talent development
