Senior Software Engineer
Senior Software Engineer (Python & AWS)
We’re seeking a Senior Software Engineer with deep expertise in Python and AWS to lead the design, development, and scaling of distributed, data-driven AI/ML systems. This role involves owning cross-service features in a modern cloud platform, making pragmatic architectural decisions, and setting high engineering standards for reliability, performance, and quality. You’ll collaborate closely with Product, Data, and Engineering teams to define technical direction, mentor junior engineers, and ensure systems are secure, observable, and resilient.
Key Responsibilities
-
Lead end-to-end software delivery:
- Design and implement Python-based microservices using FastAPI, Flask, or Django
- Develop and refine cloud-native solutions on AWS (Lambda, ECS/Fargate, S3, DynamoDB, API Gateway, etc.)
- Define service boundaries, data ownership, and failure-recovery patterns for scalable systems
-
Architect and optimise systems:
- Set high standards for reliability, performance, and observability
- Monitor and reduce latency, error rates, and infrastructure costs
- Review critical code reviews (PRs) and guide technical decisions
-
Champion engineering quality:
- Advocate for testing, security, and data-privacy best practices
- Implement robust logging, tracing, and scalability solutions
-
Scale production systems:
- Lead incident response and root-cause analysis
- Continuously improve CI/CD pipelines with Docker, Terraform, GitHub Actions
- Align API design and event-driven architectures with business needs

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
