Senior Software Engineer
Senior Software Engineer – Permanent (3 Days On-Site in Oxford)
CRITICAL NOTES:
- Full-time (3 days/week) at our Oxford head office
- Mandatory Right-to-Work checks due to security clearance requirements
We are seeking a senior software engineer specialising in high-performance desktop and cloud applications, to lead technical direction while solving complex problems, shaping modern systems, and modernising legacy codebases. Reporting to the Team Lead, you will work closely with the Product Owner—writing daily code, participating in PR reviews, and driving sound architectural decisions underpinned by modern software engineering principles.
Key Responsibilities
-
Software Design & Development
- Architect, implement, and maintain complex desktop/cloud applications using design patterns, SOLID principles, automated testing, and CI/CD.
- Lead migration from mature C/C++ codebases into modern languages, runtimes, and UI/UX frameworks—without sacrificing scientific accuracy or performance.
-
AI-Assisted Modernization
- Proactively leverage AI-powered tools (e.g., Copilot, Git representational state transfer, and automated testing assistants) to improve delivery cycles and code quality.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
