About Harwin

Harwin PLC is a Portsmouth-based manufacturer specialising in the innovative design and production of electrical and electronic components. Our products are distributed globally through partners across Europe, Asia, and the US, supporting industries including aerospace, automotive, medical, telecommunications, and defence. We are proud of our engineering excellence and continuous innovation, and we’re now looking for a talented Senior Production Support Software Engineer to join our team.

The Role

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced automation software engineer to play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the machinery that underpins our manufacturing processes.

As a senior member of the team, you will take ownership of complex technical challenges, drive improvements in reliability and productivity, and actively mentor and develop those around you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Programme and maintain PLC systems (Mitsubishi iQ-R)
  • Develop and support robot programming (Mitsubishi)
  • Configure and optimise vision systems (Keyence and Asyril)
  • Work with automation equipment such as servo systems, RFID, and inverters
  • Identify and implement improvements to increase machine reliability and throughput
  • Lead fault-finding activities and resolve complex technical issues
  • Provide training, coaching, and technical guidance to engineers across the team

About You

You’ll be a highly skilled automation professional with a strong technical foundation and a passion for continuous improvement. We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has proven experience in software programming methodologies
  • Demonstrates strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Can work independently and take ownership of challenges
  • Is confident mentoring and developing others
  • Has excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Shows high attention to detail and a methodical approach

Technical Experience

  • Hands-on experience with PLC programming (Mitsubishi iQ-R or equivalent)
  • Robot programming experience (Mitsubishi or equivalent)
  • Experience with HMI and vision systems (Keyence, Asyril or similar)
  • Strong understanding of automation systems and integration
