About us
52North is a medical technology company on a mission to make emergency care safer and more effective. Awarded breakthrough status for its first product Neutrocheck® by the UK Government in 2024, we build innovative diagnostic and digital solutions to transform patients' journeys in emergency care. Our mission-driven multidisciplinary team is backed by leading UK and US hospital venture funds, and partners including the University of Cambridge and Macmillan Cancer Support.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced medical software engineer to join our engineering team and help build the regulated software that underpins our clinical products. You will have real ownership over technical decisions and contribute to how we develop and continue to improve our engineering practices. We work with Laravel and Vue.js across a modern web application stack. Quality and excellence aren’t just compliance checkboxes for us; our software is used in clinical settings where getting it right matters for patients. This is a full-time role.
What you will do
Regulated software and compliance
- Develop software within a regulated lifecycle framework in line with UK and EU requirements (MDR, ISO 13485, IEC 62304, DCB standards, and related guidance)
- Contribute to technical documentation and audit-ready records as a natural part of how you work
- Support the team in upholding the quality standards expected of a certified medical device manufacturer
Building and shipping product
- Design, develop, and maintain features across the full stack, including Laravel back-end, Vue.js front-end
- Integrate with Electronic Health Record systems, managing clinical data flows and ensuring robust interoperability across standards including HL7 FHIR and SMART on FHIR
- Work with Epic APIs and related integrations as part of our broader health system connectivity
- Contribute to architecture decisions and code reviews as a senior member of the team

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
