Senior Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails)
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails) based in the United Kingdom.
This senior engineering role offers the opportunity to build and scale AI-powered products used by millions of users worldwide.
You will play a key role in developing high-performance backend systems, contributing to product architecture, technical strategy, and feature delivery within a fast-growing technology environment.
Working closely with product managers, technical leaders, and cross-functional engineering teams, you will help transform ambitious product ideas into reliable and scalable solutions.
The role combines hands-on software development with technical ownership, allowing you to influence architecture, engineering practices, and future product direction.
You will work with modern Ruby on Rails technologies while collaborating in a fully remote, highly autonomous environment focused on speed, quality, and continuous innovation.
This position is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving complex challenges, shipping impactful features, and building products at massive scale.
You will also have the opportunity to experiment with emerging AI technologies and contribute ideas that shape the future of the platform.
Accountabilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Ruby and the latest Ruby on Rails framework.
- Collaborate with Product Managers to review specifications, estimate delivery timelines, and define technical implementation strategies.
- Take ownership of features throughout the development lifecycle, including architecture, coding, testing, code reviews, deployment, and maintenance.
- Build reliable and high-performance services using PostgreSQL, Redis, Hotwire, Turbo, Stimulus, and Tailwind CSS.
- Participate in architectural discussions, proposing scalable and maintainable technical solutions aligned with business objectives.
- Work closely with engineering, product, SRE, and data teams to deliver high-quality software that serves millions of users.
- Continuously improve code quality, development processes, and engineering best practices while contributing to technical innovation.
- Explore and experiment with new technologies and AI-driven solutions to enhance products and engineering workflows.

Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience as a backend or full-stack software engineer.
- Strong expertise in Ruby and Ruby on Rails within production environments.
- Experience building and scaling products serving thousands or millions of active users.
- Background working in fast-paced startups, scale-ups, or similarly agile technology companies.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, Redis, and modern web application architecture.
- Experience with Hotwire (Turbo and Stimulus), Tailwind CSS, or similar frontend technologies is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills with full professional English proficiency.
- Strong sense of ownership with the ability to independently drive projects from concept to production.
- User-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality product experiences.
- Comfortable balancing software craftsmanship with rapid product delivery.
- Interest or experience in AI, machine learning, NLP, MLOps, or data science is a plus.
- Experience collaborating with globally distributed remote teams is advantageous.
- Comfortable working on AI products that may include uncensored or NSFW-generated content in accordance with platform policies.
