We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our passionate, lean, agile, fast-growing and evolving technology team on a permanent basis.
- You'll be an experienced engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical problems, building highly scalable systems and helping those around you become better engineers.
- You'll be comfortable owning complex initiatives from design through to production, influencing technical direction and driving engineering excellence across multiple teams.
- You'll remain hands-on whilst acting as a trusted technical leader within the team.

The Role
As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll design, build, deploy and operate high-quality software across our digital platform whilst helping shape the technical direction of the products you support.
- You'll partner closely with Technical Leads, Product Managers and fellow engineers to solve complex business problems, influence architectural decisions and ensure our platforms remain scalable, resilient and secure.
- You'll be trusted to independently lead large technical initiatives, mentor engineers across the team and champion engineering best practice.
- You'll be comfortable working across the full technology stack, whether that's backend services, APIs, integrations, infrastructure or frontend applications.

You'll also:
- Lead technical discovery and solution design for complex initiatives.
- Break down large technical problems into achievable deliverables.
- Drive engineering quality through code reviews, testing strategies and technical standards.
- Coach and mentor engineers through pairing, technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
- Own production services throughout their lifecycle using a "You build it, you run it" mindset.
- Identify opportunities to improve architecture, developer experience and platform reliability.
- Contribute to engineering strategy alongside Technical Leads and Principal Engineers.
- Champion the effective use of AI-assisted engineering tools to improve delivery while maintaining engineering quality.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing and delivering solutions that span these domains.
You'll work on end-to-end initiatives, designing APIs, integrating distributed systems and building customer-facing experiences that are scalable, resilient and easy to evolve.
You'll collaborate closely with other domain teams across Customer Digital, helping align technical approaches, solve cross-domain challenges and continually improve the overall engineering ecosystem.
Responsibilities
Our Senior Software Engineers are technical leaders who remain close to the code while helping the wider engineering organisation succeed.
You'll:
- Design and deliver scalable, secure and resilient software solutions.
- Lead technical implementation of complex initiatives from discovery through production.
- Collaborate with engineers, Product Managers and Technical Leads to shape technical solutions.
- Mentor engineers through pairing, coaching and constructive code reviews.
- Drive improvements to engineering standards, tooling and development practices.
- Contribute to architectural discussions and technical roadmaps.
- Build comprehensive automated testing and continuously improve test coverage.
- Own services in production, including monitoring, observability, alerting and operational excellence.
- Build and optimise CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
- Support incident response, root cause analysis and continuous service improvement.
- Influence technical decisions across multiple teams where appropriate.
- Champion performance, scalability, security and maintainability across the platform.
- Continuously explore emerging technologies, including AI-assisted software development, to improve engineering effectiveness.

Skills Required
Essential
- Significant commercial software engineering experience delivering production systems.
- Expert proficiency in Rust, Golang or TypeScript.
- Experience designing distributed systems, APIs and event-driven architectures.
- Strong understanding of software architecture and engineering best practices.
- Experience working across multiple programming languages and technology stacks.
- Strong experience with CI/CD, cloud-native development and production support.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction.
- Strong understanding of Agile software delivery.
- Experience using AI effectively as part of the software development lifecycle.
