Senior Software Engineer (Rust/Linux)

Senior Embedded Software Engineer – C/Rust – Mission Critical Systems

Location: North London / West Herts Contract Type: Hybrid (1 day in office per week) Salary: Competitive package

A Senior Embedded Software Engineer with expertise in C and Rust development, Embedded Linux, and low-level driver work is needed to create reliable software for mission-critical communications products.

This role delivers an attractive salary, highly flexible hybrid working (as few as one office day per week), and generous benefits.


About the Role

The Senior Embedded Software Engineer will:

  • Develop robust, secure, and high-performance embedded systems with a focus on Linux-based platforms
  • Write kernel-space and user-space components in C and Rust
  • Contribute to networking driver and protocol development
  • Troubleshoot complex software-hardware integration issues

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain embedded software for mission-critical communications products
  • Develop Linux kernel drivers and user-space applications
  • Work with Rust alongside C for system-level programming
  • Ensure security, reliability, and performance in all code contributions
  • Solve debugging challenges in embedded and networking-related projects

Requirements

  • Degree: 1st / 2:1 Bachelor’s or Master’s in Software Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • C: Fluent in C, with robust coding practices
  • Rust: Prod-level experience preferred, particularly in embedded/system-level applications
  • Embedded Linux: Strong hands-on expertise, including:
    • Codec neonatal driver development
    • Linux kernel interaction
    • Embedded file systems & bootloaders
  • Linux Drivers: Experience with device driver development
  • Networking: Familiarity with networking protocols and driver design
  • Industrial Experience: Multiple years in mission-critical embedded software, preferably related to communications hardware
