Senior Software Engineer

Senior Software Engineer

Location: London

Salary: £44,100 - £66,100

Security Clearance: Highest Level of UK Government Clearance

(Candidates must be UK nationals and already hold this clearance)

About the Role

We’re Northrop Grumman UK — a team pioneering innovation for global security and defence challenges. Here, "Defining Possible" isn’t just a vision; it’s a living principle. You’ll work at the cutting edge of capabilities — solving complex technical challenges, shaping solutions, and making a tangible impact.

For a Senior Software Engineer, this means designing and architecting critical software systems, leading projects, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver performance underpinned by agility.

“My purpose is to lead a team of engineers, rise to the challenges presented, push the boundaries and define possible together.” — Matthew Bullock, Software Manager, Northrop Grumman UK

Responsibilities

  • Hands-on development, contributing directly to the codebase and performing code reviews, ensuring high standards of coding and test quality.
  • Design, prototype, and refine software solutions in alignment with product roadmaps, documenting design choices clearly.
  • Break down complex challenges into manageable, time-boxed tasks using Agile frameworks (Scrum/Kanban).
  • Support and refine continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, including management of Jenkins, Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-based deployments (AWS).
  • Present and demonstrate progress to both internal engineers and external stakeholders, liaising on technical iterations.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
