Senior Software Engineer
Hybrid - Barrow-in-Furness
Initial onboarding: 2-3 days per week onsite, reducing to one week per month thereafter
12 Month Contract
Inside IR35 - Strong rates
SC Clearance preferred (eligibility essential)
We're looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join a major digital transformation programme within the UK defence sector.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary Agile team, you'll help design and build scalable, secure software applications used within a complex engineering environment. This is a genuine full-stack role where you'll contribute across the entire software development lifecycle, from solution design through to deployment and ongoing enhancement.
You'll collaborate closely with Technical Leads, Product Owners, Business Analysts, Platform Engineers, and Data Scientists to deliver modern, high-quality software that makes a real operational impact.

What you'll be doing
- Designing and developing scalable full-stack applications
- Building backend services using C# or Python
- Developing modern JavaScript-based user interfaces
- Working with SQL Server and NoSQL databases
- Writing clean, maintainable, well-tested code
- Participating in code reviews and technical discussions
- Troubleshooting and resolving software issues
- Contributing to solution design and software architecture
- Working within Agile delivery teams
What we're looking for
- Strong commercial experience with C# or Python
- JavaScript development experience
- SQL database knowledge
- Experience building scalable enterprise applications
- Understanding of software architecture and design principles
- Experience with unit testing and integration testing
- Comfortable working in Agile environments

- Cosmos DB or other NoSQL databases
