Windows Desktop Engineer — Speechify

Mission

The Role

Lead Windows Desktop Development

  • Design, architect, and develop native Windows desktop applications using:

    • Windows App SDK, WinUI (or similar frameworks)
    • C#, XAML
    • C++ (when required)
  • Define and enforce best practices for Windows desktop development, including:

    • Code architecture, performance, memory management
    • Responsive UI design
    • Cross-version compatibility (Windows 10, 11, and beyond)
    • Maintainability and scalability

Drive Accessibility & Inclusive Design

  • Integrate and validate accessibility APIs, such as:
    • Microsoft UI Automation
    • Other relevant Windows frameworks
  • Ensure full support for:
    • UI controls
    • Focus management
    • Keyboard navigation
    • Screen-reader compatibility
    • Usability for users with disabilities

Collaborate Across Teams

  • Work closely with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and stakeholders to shape:
    • Feature planning
    • UI/UX architecture
    • Long-term roadmap for the Windows platform

Own the Full Feature Lifecycle

  • From conception → design → implementation → testing → release → maintenance, ensuring:
    • Quality, reliability, and consistency across all releases

Solve Complex Challenges

  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve:
    • Complex bugs
    • Performance bottlenecks
    • Memory leaks
    • Rendering issues
    • Compatibility problems
  • Propose architectural or design solutions

Requirements

Required

  • 3+ years of experience developing Windows desktop applications using:
    • Windows App SDK, WinUI (or comparable UI frameworks)
    • C#, XAML
    • C++ (plus Win32/WinRT/COM interop experience)
  • Deep knowledge of Windows application architecture, including managed-to-native code interop (.NET ↔ C++)
  • Proven ability to design, build, and ship production-quality desktop apps, with a focus on:
    • Reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability
  • Strong accessibility expertise, especially with Windows frameworks like Microsoft UI Automation
  • Robust software engineering fundamentals:
    • OOP, design patterns
    • Data structures and algorithms
    • Memory management
    • Multi-threading/asynchronous programming
  • Experience leading technical design, code reviews, and architecture decisions
  • Strong communication skills to:
    • Articulate tradeoffs
    • Collaborate cross-functionally
    • Drive decision-making
  • User-centric mindset: Focus on building polished, intuitive, and accessible experiences

Preferred

  • Experience with automated testing frameworks (unit/integration/UI)
  • Knowledge of:
    • Performance optimization (memory, startup time, rendering, DPI support)
    • Localization & globalization (right-to-left UI, regional accessibility)
  • Experience with:
    • Telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, logging, error monitoring
    • CI/CD pipelines and App Store deployments
  • Ability to take ownership of long-term feature areas, including:
    • Maintenance, refactoring, and technical debt management
