About the Role

Are you an experienced engineer passionate about scalable systems and seamless user experiences? Join our Search Team to help millions of guests discover their ideal getaway. At Awaze, search is the heartbeat of our booking journey, shaping how travellers connect with unique stays across luxury lodges, cottages, and holiday parks.

Our Search Product Team powers the full search experience—from fast location queries, dynamic filtering, and precision price sorting, to availability-matching engines and AI-powered recommendation algorithms.

This role demands full-stack ownership, balancing backend innovation with customer-centric design across a diverse brand portfolio. You’ll tackle data scale challenges, partner with Data Science, Product, and Design teams, and champion engineering excellence in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a full-stack product team to create innovative, high-performance tools for guests and property owners.
  • Define the technical architecture and long-term strategy for our search platform.
  • Drive modern engineering practices: CI/CD, Test-Driven Development, cloud-native design (ECS/EKS), and collaborative coding (pair/mob programming).
  • Mentor junior and graduate engineers, fostering team growth.
  • Engage with Product, Data Science, Analytics, and UX teams to deliver data-driven solutions.
  • Pioneer user-facing search enhancements that directly impact satisfaction and conversions.

Ideal Profile

We seek two Senior Engineers:

  • 1x Backend/Full Stack weighted
  • 1x Frontend/Full Stack weighted

Required Experience:

  • 5+ years in large-scale software development, with a track record of commercial, high-traffic systems.
  • Fluent in one modern programming language and open to scaling into Java/Kotlin (backend) or TypeScript/React (frontend).
  • Hands-on experience with search technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch/Opensearch).
  • Proven cloud expertise, with AWS, ECS, API Gateway, and CloudFront deployment experience.
  • Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and security practices in distributed systems.
  • Collaborative problem-solving with Data Science, Analytics, and Design teams to deliver measurable ROI.
