Job Title: Senior Software Engineer

Essential Experience:
- Previous experience in a commercial software development environment
- Experience developing web services in a service-based architecture using Java (v8+)
- Knowledge and experience using relational databases, Hibernate, and Spring or similar frameworks
- Knowledge of best practices and supporting tools throughout the Software Development lifecycle
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with software and delivery teams to define and implement architectural vision for single projects.
- Undertake detailed design work for individual services in line with the architectural vision.
- Understand and maintain all relevant architectural documentation on project work undertaken.
- Ensure architectural work includes appropriate quality controls mechanisms (e.g., reliability patterns and health-checks).
- Understand core architectural patterns and frameworks used by Hodge.
- Engage with external suppliers to ensure system interfaces align with agreed principles and standards.
- Understand key business processes that software supports.
- Understand the wider economic environment in which Hodge operates.
- Lead software development activity on single delivery teams.
- Manage development and test resources on single delivery teams.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of relevant languages and frameworks.
- Work with delivery teams to ensure NFRs are defined, agreed, and implemented.
- Work with delivery teams to ensure a standardized approach to estimation.
- Development work to enhance existing and creation of new software systems and services.
- Ensure appropriate quality measures (e.g., unit test coverage) are adhered to and improved.
- Ensure appropriate documentation is maintained to support current and future development activity.
- Work with Test team to ensure agreed testing requirements are implemented.
- Review work and code of other team members.
- Investigate and develop data fixes to support BAU activity.
- Development work to resolve issues and enhance existing software systems and services.
- Apply key software quality controls to development work undertaken.
- Pro-actively improve team performance through formalized knowledge sharing.
- Advise and coach other team members to aid their technical and team development.
- Pro-actively investigate the technology landscape and best practices to identify improvements.
- Work with scrum masters to implement and refine Agile practices.
- Maintain a knowledge of current technologies and best practices to identify improvements.
- Engage with external parties and the tech community to share and improve knowledge.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies to improve change and development practices.
- Understand and follow key Software Development practices and processes.
- Progress formal training and certification in relevant technologies and disciplines.
