What You’ll Do
As the technical authority for software development of secure digital design solutions at Viasat UK, you will:
- Drive engineering excellence and quality governance, supporting the team through optimised processes, modern tools, and robust technical guidance.
- Spend 80% of your time on project execution and 20% on team mentorship and governance.
- Work closely with systems engineering and project managers to ensure teams hit deadlines and project milestones.
The Day-to-Day
Governance & Technical Enablement
- Define and refine the unified software development lifecycle (SDL) and toolsets.
- Provide deep architectural guidance with a focus on system integration.
- Enforce quality standards and stage-gated peer reviews across multidisciplinary teams.
- Proactively remove technical barriers to ensure engineering schedules stay on track.

Team Mentorship & Development
- Lead career development within the software engineering team through coaching and mentorship.
- Identify training needs, skills gaps, and recruitment requirements to align with business goals.
- Foster cross-disciplinary collaboration between software designers and broader engineering teams.
Project Execution & Technical Delivery
- Design and implement detailed software architecture for embedded systems and user applications.
- Lead rigorous software design verification (DV) testing.
- Support sustaining engineering efforts, resolving complex software issues, production bugs, and component obsolescence in legacy systems to maintain product reliability.
(Note: Additional tasks may be required at times for project/business objectives.)
What You’ll Need

| Experience | 10+ years of domain experience in software engineering. |
| Education | Degree in Software Engineering or a related discipline. |
| Technical Enablement | Experience in defining processes and toolsets. |
| Quality Frameworks | Ability to implement engineering governance and design review metrics. |
| Security Clearance | Must be a UK sole national and either already possess or have the ability to obtain a UK security clearance. |
