The Position
As a Senior Software Test Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality, reliability, and compliance of Roche’s medical software systems. Your work will directly impact regulatory standards, safety verification, and global healthcare innovation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Independently planning, designing, and verifying complex software features—from feasibility to product lifecycle management.
- Mentoring junior team members and fostering technical excellence within the software testing chapter.
- Collaborating with software developers, engineers, and cross-functional teams to drive technical and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Software Verification & Validation (V&V) Strategy & Planning
- Lead independent reviews of software requirements and user stories to ensure clarity, testability, and alignment with stakeholders.
- Collaborate to define software acceptance criteria, establishing a solid framework for verification.
Advanced Test Design & Development
- Design and maintain complex test cases across all software lifecycle phases, from early feasibility through to product care.
- Work closely with developers to elaborate test cases and resolve technical issues.
- Ensure regulatory compliance and safety standards are met.

Test Automation & Engineering
- Specify and implement software test environments, tools, and automation frameworks.
- Align testing activities with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Execution, Defect Tracking & Reporting
- Execute complex test suites, analyze results, and track defects through verification of fixes.
- Report findings directly to project teams and propose actionable next steps.
Technical Leadership & Innovation
- Mentor junior test engineers and drive adoption of new testing technologies.
- Act as a software verification representative in cross-functional meetings (e.g., with Systems Engineering, hardware development, and operations).
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Engage with Systems Engineering, HW Development, and Operations to ensure end-to-end software quality.
Who You Are
Education
- M.Sc. or higher in Informatics, Software Engineering, or a related field (e.g., Mechatronics, Electronics).
Experience
- At least 5 years of professional experience in software verification, testing, or a related technical role.
Certification
- ISTQB Certified Tester (Advanced Level: Test Analyst or Technical Test Analyst) or equivalent.

Technical Expertise
- Profound knowledge of V&V processes for complex embedded and medical software systems.
- Expert-level skills in test automation using languages such as Python, C/C++, Bash Script, or Gherkin.
- Advanced proficiency with test management tools like JAMA or codebeamer.
- Experience in load testing, reliability testing, and usability testing is a strong plus.
Soft Skills
- Ability to solve complex technical problems under pressure.
- Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts clearly and provide constructive feedback.
- Innovative mindset to identify risks and propose proactive solutions.
- Expert English (B2/C1+) for global collaboration.

Location & Work Model
This role is based in Maxim Motherwell with a hybrid working model (minimum 50% office presence). No relocation support is available for this position.
