Senior Solutions Architect – AWS WWPS Partner Team (Defence Sector)
Would you like to help customers implement innovative cloud computing solutions, solve complex technical problems, and shape the future of defence modernization?
As a Senior Solutions Architect within the AWS WWPS (Worldwide Partner Solutions) Partner team, you will drive cloud adoption for defence-sector partners, designing architectures for AI/ML, high-performance computing (HPC), advanced analytics, digital engineering, and manufacturing systems modernization.
You will act as a trusted technical leader, owning implementation projects, defining strategic roadmaps, responding to RFPs, and acting as an SME for defence-specific challenges. This role requires executive-level consultation, multi-threaded architectural leadership, and the ability to navigate compliance and mission-critical environments—**all while representing AWS as the preferred cloud infrastructure partner.
About the Role
Responsibilities
- Lead technical strategy and architecture for defence-partner cloud transformations, covering AI/ML, HPC, digital engineering, and mission-critical compliance.
- Own end-to-end AWS solution architectures, spanning:
- Compute, data, machine learning, and operational tooling
- RFPs, pre- and post-implementation support
- Mission-critical systems integration
- Advise executive stakeholders on:
- Alignment of business objectives with AWS-native, scalable architectures
- Roadmaps for modernization
- Compliance and defence-industry workflows
- Deliver thought leadership by:
- Capturing best practices within AWS Solutions Architecture
- Spearheading architectural decisions across multiple concurrent engagements
- Ensuring AWS remains the strategic platform of choice during scaling phases

Key Accountabilities
- Technical Leadership – Shape AWS’s defence-sector differentiation through deep architectural expertise.
- Multi-Workstream Execution – Oversee 2+ defence engagements concurrently, balancing compliance, scalability, and client needs.
- Sales & Business Alignment – Translate client problems into clear AWS solutions for revenue and efficiency gains.
- Security & Compliance Focus – Drive thorough assessment of defence-specific frameworks (e.g., ISO 31000, DoD, MOD alignment), operational risks, and mission resilience.

Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years’ experience in:
- Cloud technology implementation (AWS-focused)
- Architecture, development, or prescribing cloud/compute/data solutions
- Technical communication with executives and C-suite leadership
- Demonstrated ability to:
- Manage projects with minimal oversight
- Present convergent technical/strategic recommendations

Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years in defence/compliance infrastructure or multi-cloud security models
- Expertise in implementation architectures for:
- AI/ML workloads
- HPC & high-load distributed systems
- Digital/execution engineering
- Cybersecurity as focused as compliance/fault tolerance planning
- Fluent in AWS:
- Advanced visualization (CloudFormation, Terraform, Containers),
- Networking (VPC, Direct Connect, Zero Trust)
- OLTP/OLAP systems in production-ready scale
Security Clearance
This position requires the candidate to be:
- A UK national
- Able to attain at least a basic-level security clearance
Travel
Travel for this role is up to 25% (entry into the UK grant funding).
