Role: Senior Staff Nurse – Women’s Health / Surgical / Gynaecology
Location: The Portland Hospital
Hours: Full time, Permanent – 37.5 hours per week
Shift pattern: 11.5 hour shifts between 07:45–20:15 and 20:15–07:45, across 3 or 4 day week rotas (including weekends and nights)
Salary: Competitive plus Shift Enhancement
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Staff Nurse to join our Women’s Health and Gynaecology team at The Portland Hospital. The Portland Hospital is a highly specialised centre known for providing exceptional care across women’s health, surgery, and early pregnancy services. This fast-paced unit supports both inpatients and outpatients, caring for up to 16 patients a day across 11 rooms. The ward delivers compassionate care to patients and families, including those experiencing complex and sensitive pregnancy-related conditions, making it a unique and rewarding clinical environment.
As a Senior Staff Nurse in this specialist unit, you’ll be part of a highly skilled and supportive team delivering expert care across surgical and women’s health pathways. Working in a dynamic and emotionally sensitive environment, you will play a key leadership role on shift. You’ll coordinate patient care, manage daily ward operations, and ensure seamless communication across multidisciplinary teams. You will join a highly supportive and compassionate team recognised through multiple DAISY Award nominations for excellence in patient care. This role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in gynaecology and early pregnancy care while working closely with leading Consultants. With structured training both on the ward and in outpatient settings, alongside access to development programmes and external partnerships such as King’s College and the Florence Nightingale Foundation, this is an excellent opportunity for a nurse looking to specialise and progress their career.

What you’ll bring:
- RGN qualification with current NMC registration
- Experience working within women’s health or gynaecology settings
- Demonstrated ability to support patients and families during emotionally complex situations, including loss
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to take responsibility for running a ward
- Excellent communication and organisational skills in a fast-paced clinical environment
