Senior Staff Product Engineer – Lifecycle Engineering

Location: Bristol, UK — Semtech Bristol Design Centre (St James Court B, Great Park Road, Bristol BS32 4QJ)

About the Role

Within Semtech’s high-performance product portfolio, the Lifecycle Engineering team plays a critical role in ensuring that released products continue to meet global customer expectations throughout their operational life.

This team bridges Product Engineering, Test Engineering, Design, Quality, and Operations, with a focus on:

  • Yield improvement
  • Sustaining engineering
  • Manufacturing optimisation
  • Long-term product health

Their work directly impacts:

  • Product performance
  • Cost efficiency
  • Profitability across global manufacturing sites and supplier networks.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Staff Product Engineer to strengthen our Lifecycle Engineering capability.


Job Summary

As Senior Staff Product Engineer – Lifecycle Engineering, you will:

  • Lead sustaining engineering for mature, high-volume semiconductor products
  • Drive yield improvement and margin optimisation initiatives
  • Resolve complex production challenges (e.g., quality, test performance, yield issues)
  • Apply structured methodologies (e.g., 8D, CAPA) to improve manufacturing stability
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Test, Design, Quality, Operations, and Supply Chain
  • Apply data-driven practices to optimise lifecycles (ramp-up → end-of-life)

This is a high-visibility, hands-on role where your technical expertise directly contributes to engineering excellence and business performance.


Responsibilities

Leadership & Ownership

  • Oversee yield improvement and margin optimisation efforts across internal & external manufacturing environments (20%)
  • Manufacturing lifecycle ownership – from initial product ramp to end-of-life stage (20%), ensuring product stability
  • Define and execute supply chain collaboration strategies for global sites & suppliers

Technical Problem-Solving

  • Investigate and resolve critical production issues (quality, yield, test performance defects) using structured methodologies (20%)
  • Develop and implement test optimisation strategies for improved accuracy & efficiency

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Test, Design, Quality, Operations, and Supply Chain to embed manufacturability, cost efficiency, and test optimisation (20%)

Data-Driven Excellence

  • Conduct statistical analysis and continuous improvement initiatives (20%)
  • Translate data insights into actionable engineering decisions

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • 5–8 years of experience in semiconductor product, test, or design engineering (preferably in sustaining or lifecycle roles)
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Yield analysis & margin improvement
    • Cross-functional technical problem-solving
  • Proficiency with ATE platforms (e.g., Advantest, Teradyne) or bench test environments
  • Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC), data analysis, and design of experiments (DoE)
  • Fluent professional English (written & spoken)

Desired Qualifications

(Preferred experience for increased eligibility)

  • Experience working across global manufacturing sites & supplier networks
  • Proficiency with tools such as:
    • Excel
    • JMP, Galaxy, dataConductor (or similar analysis platforms)
    • High-speed serial interfaces, video/datacom systems, or JEDEC/MIL-STD quality standards
  • Strong documentation discipline & structured engineering approach
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced production environments with competing priorities
