About Us

Our purpose is simple: to save lives at sea. 24 hours a day, every day, RNLI lifesavers are ready to launch to the rescue.

About the Role

Due to retirement, an exciting opportunity is available to join Kirkwall Lifeboat Station as a Senior Station Technician or Station Technician.

These roles suit individuals whose mechanical expertise, resilience, leadership, and management skills match their ability to keep Kirkwall Lifeboat Station in perfect operational order.

Your Role

Responsibilities

The Senior Station Technician role is intended for individuals with an NVQ L4/SVQ L5 in an engineering discipline (or equivalent through trade experience) in mechanical, electrical, or electronic engineering. If these qualifications lack, applicants might be considered for a Station Technician role.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Ensuring the Severn Class All Weather Lifeboat (ALB) remains in peak condition.
  • Managing day-to-day station operations, including administrative and training duties.
  • Conducting shore-based crew training to guarantee readiness during emergency launches.
  • Inspiring and motivating volunteer crew members, supporting their professional growth through mentoring.
  • Leading Quality, Safety, Health, and Environment (QSHE) initiatives and fostering a positive work culture.
  • Representing the station and RNLI to the general public, showcasing the organisation’s mission.
  • Supporting operational coordination by handling emails, maintaining records, and collaborating with the Operations Team on station management.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
