At Collins Aerospace, part of RTX Corporation, we are developing the next generation of aerospace nacelle and actuation technologies from our new Wolverhampton facility.
This is a unique opportunity to join a small team of technical innovators working on advanced aerospace systems. You will play a key role in supporting structural integrity and product development activities across the full product lifecycle, from concept development through to qualification, production, and in-service support.
What You Will Do
As a Senior Stress Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering structural analysis activities to support the design and development of electric actuation systems and associated subsystems.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Performing preliminary sizing studies and supporting conceptual design activities
- Conducting classical and computational structural analysis of mechanical systems and components
- Analysing gears, splines, threads, bearings, lead screws, ball screws, and other mechanical elements
- Producing technical reports and presenting analysis results to internal and external stakeholders
- Developing and enhancing structural analysis capabilities to support future technology roadmaps
- Supporting customer proposals and technical presentations for new business opportunities
- Supporting failure investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action activities
- Acting as a structural analysis focal point within the Value Stream
- Collaborating with local and global engineering teams to share best practices and drive continuous improvement
- Mentoring and supporting the development of graduates, early careers engineers, and colleagues within the engineering team
- Supporting engineering activities across design, integration, testing, qualification, and production phases

What You Must Have
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- Demonstrated experience in structural or stress analysis
- Strong understanding of classical stress analysis methods such as:
- Strength of materials
- Static and fatigue analysis
- Mechanical component analysis
- Industry-standard approaches such as Shigley, Peterson, and Bruhn methodologies
- Experience performing finite element analysis (FEA) such as:
- Linear static analysis
- Non-linear material analysis
- Contact and assembly modelling
- Dynamic and vibration analysis
- Plasticity and non-linear material behaviour
- Ability to calculate margins of safety and assess structural integrity with confidence
- Experience supporting complex engineering investigations and failure analysis
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Passion for engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous learning
The role will be based in a new Collins Aerospace facility in Wolverhampton, UK, with <10% international travel.
Desirable Experience
- Experience using ANSYS
- Experience using MathCAD
- Experience using CATIA
- Aerospace structures or actuation systems experience
- Experience supporting certification or qualification programmes
