The Opportunity
We’re seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our dynamic Precast Technical Solutions (PTS) team within the Explore Manufacturing Design Centre. The PTS team delivers end-to-end precast design and engineering leadership, pioneering Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) solutions across building structures, facades, and infrastructure.
In This Role, You Will
- Provide structural engineering design support throughout the lifecycle of precast products, ensuring engineered safety from manufacture to installation.
- Lead structural input on Tenders and Pre-Construction Service Agreement (PCSA) engagements for DfMA projects.
- Collaborate with production teams on temporary works and lifting designs.
- Support bid teams by developing DfMA-based alternative designs to improve pricing and reduce risk.
- Drive innovation by applying parametric design techniques to optimize DfMA components.
- Support Laing O’Rourke’s net zero carbon commitment by 2050.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and review precast structural elements for manufacture, transport, handling, and installation.
- Interpret project specifications to ensure structural compliance and performance.
- Deliver value engineering solutions balancing client needs and manufacturing constraints.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers across the business.
- Convert in-situ schemes into precast components with appropriate connection strategies.
- Provide tender-stage structural assessments and cost evaluations using CEMC’s product range.
- Innovate to achieve efficiencies in carbon reduction and material use.
- Maintain expertise in DfMA principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Contribute to ongoing product development and new product introductions.

What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Passion for leading structural design innovation.
- Proactive and self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills.
- Experience in reinforced concrete design.
- Engineering degree and Chartered Structural Engineer status, or commitment to becoming Chartered within 24 months.
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in structural design engineering.
