Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) is a collective of over 1,200 architects, designers, structural engineers and planners working across studios in London, Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Hong Kong, Melbourne, Riyadh and Dubai.
We are seeking to hire our next generation of Structural Engineering Design Leaders in the SOM London Studio to help Shape the Future of our Global Engineering Practice.
We are looking for technically astute and innovative leaders who can drive design ideas and deliver our most ambitious global architecturally led engineering projects.

Your Impact
As a senior design voice in the studio, you’ll shape projects from concept to completion, by helping to integrate strategic structurally led solutions with the goal of engineering excellence.
As Part Of The Role, You Will
- Champion the design process from early concept through to late stage delivery, ensuring constructability, performance, and exceptional quality.
- Lead on structural engineering design, analysis and coordination to resolve complex challenges with creativity and clarity.
- Mentor the next generation of talent and contribute to a dynamic, design-led culture.
- Articulate compelling design narratives to your peers, architects and clients, and inspire collaborators and elevate our global presence.

Who You Are
- A Structural Engineer with 10+ years experience leading a wide range of complex projects, particularly large scale in all major building materials.
- Chartered with IStructE (preferred) or ICE.
- Technical proficiency and knowledge of structural systems and software.
- Strong knowledge and deep experience of designing to UK, European and other International Building Codes.
- A passionate advocate for innovative, efficient and sustainable design.
- A natural leader who energizes and inspires interdisciplinary teams to achieve design excellence.
- An articulate communicator, able to express design concepts and intent through documentation, dialogue, and publication in a wide variety of settings.
- Able to present an active design voice and promote thought leadership, mentorship, and advocacy within the London Structural team and the wider Firmwide engineering community.
