Senior Structural Engineer (Contract)
BakerHicks is seeking a Chartered Senior Structural Engineer to provide interim support to the increasing workload within our London Civils & Structures team.
This is an opportunity to step into a live, multi‑disciplinary project environment and make an immediate impact on project delivery. You will take ownership of defined structural design packages, working closely with project teams and stakeholders to deliver high‑quality engineering solutions that meet agreed cost, programme, and safety requirements. The Role Reporting to an Associate or Principal Engineer, you will lead small to medium C&S design packages or contribute as a key team member on larger, complex projects. While there are no line management responsibilities, you will support and guide others through technical delivery and collaboration.
What You’ll Be Doing Deliver defined structural design packages and project deliverables to agreed programme and quality expectations Support and coordinate with multi‑disciplinary project teams to enable efficient delivery Apply current civil and structural design codes and standards across your work Complete self‑checks and independent reviews to maintain confidence in technical accuracy (all work subject to review) Discharge Senior Engineer responsibilities under CDM and health & safety regulations Recognise commercial and programme considerations, identifying risks or issues and escalating where appropriate Support programme development and provide progress and performance updates to Associate or Principal Engineers Promote BakerHicks’ Safe Together behaviours and a culture of quality, innovation and sustainability You will be aligned to one sector assignment at a time, based on your experience and background.

About the Work You may support projects across sectors including aviation, power, defence, life sciences and the public sector. Project allocation will be matched to your experience, for example: Your experience in refurbishment, steelwork or secondary steelwork, may align well with our aviation projects Your Foundation design experience may align well with our power or heavy infrastructure projects We welcome a diverse background of experience.
What We’re Looking For Qualifications & Eligibility Chartered Engineer status (CEng MICE or CEng MIStructE) CSCS card Eligible to obtain BPSS clearance at minimum (SC desirable but not essential) Right to work in the UK Technical Experience Strong, current knowledge of structural design codes and standards Proven experience delivering building and infrastructure‑related design, including: Building structures Foundation design Earthworks and site investigations Road and bridge works Coordination of services Experience working in integrated, multi‑discipline design teams Familiarity with technical assurance and quality processes Why BakerHicks?
