Great opportunities for Structural Engineers looking to work for a contractor!

A respected civil engineering contractor is expanding its London-based technical team and is looking to appoint a Senior/Principal Structural Engineer. The company is involved in the delivery of some of the capital's most innovative infrastructure and regeneration schemes. With a strong emphasis on technical quality, efficiency and collaboration, it offers a progressive environment for structural engineers seeking to shape the built environment in complex urban settings.

The Role

The Principal Structural Engineer will take responsibility for leading the structural design and delivery of permanent works across a variety of civil engineering and building projects. Working at the interface of design and construction, the role involves producing and reviewing structural designs, supporting site teams, and ensuring structural integrity across all phases of a project. The successful candidate will combine advanced technical expertise with strong leadership and coordination skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the structural design and analysis of complex permanent works such as basements, shafts, retaining structures, foundations, bridges, and superstructures using steel, concrete, and composite materials.
  • Ensure designs meet all relevant standards and regulations, including Eurocodes, BS codes, CDM Regulations, and IStructE guidance.
  • Produce and oversee detailed structural calculations, design reports, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Provide mentoring, support, and technical oversight to engineers and CAD technicians within the team.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and external consultants to ensure cohesive and buildable design solutions.
  • Review and approve design submissions and ensure quality assurance procedures are followed throughout the design process.
  • Support construction teams with sequencing, temporary condition assessments, and site inspections during the build phase.
  • Drive innovation, sustainability, and value engineering within the design process.
  • Attend project meetings, contribute to design reviews, and represent the company in professional forums and stakeholder engagements.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
