Job Description
Ultra PCS are looking for a Senior Support Engineer. A Senior Engineer will support the delivery of engineering work as part of a team, working under the guidance of senior staff and within the wider context of the business, typically they will be responsible for leading small-to-medium sized technical work packages and providing support and guidance to junior engineers.
They will apply and develop their engineering skills to achieve engineering solutions within their own discipline within time, cost, and quality constraints, in support of any reasonable request from internal departments within the whole of PCS as well as the ongoing technical support of external customers through to a successful conclusion.
An engineer at this level will be a competent practitioner of their own discipline, able to handle more complex problems and will apply their technical / professional knowledge and experience to make independent judgements and support decision making. They should also be open to new challenges involving tasks outside of their area of expertise.
A Senior Engineer at this level is expected to support the bid and proposal process by providing estimates for work packages within their own discipline, and may be coordinating with other disciplines to identify and manage dependencies to ensure their own work packages can be delivered.

Key Responsibilities
- Create solutions and solve complex problems within own discipline.
- Ensure adequate contribution and challenges during design reviews.
- Contribute to technical/professional processes within own discipline.
- Work under minimal supervision to achieve engineering and manufacturing objectives on-time, on-quality and on-budget which will directly impact positive project outcomes.
- Provide on-the-job training to support new team members.
- Influence decisions by providing advice within closely related working teams.
- Remain aware of trends and emerging technology and tools within own discipline.
- Coach and advise more junior members of the team.
- May lead significant technical work packages and allocate/coordinate work.
- Develop engineering competence under guidance of more senior engineers and plan for professional development.
- Contribute to the definition of standards and specifications around which others will operate.
- Write reports and present work undertaken at peer and design reviews.
- Maintain professional competencies required to perform at this level.
- Demonstrate and adhere to the Ultra ASPIRE values at all times.
- Occasionally carry out duties off-site as required.
- Adhere to Ultra policies, procedures, and practices at all times.
- Carry out any other duties as reasonably required by management.
Required Skills & Experience
- A very good understanding of mechanical, electromechanical and pneumatics design. Has some production process experience.
- Capable of reading and laying out drawings to British and International Standards as necessary and following the company’s own Draughting Standard Manual.
- Provide subcontractor support and management.
- Mechanical component performance and selection experience.
- Have an awareness of other disciplines (Software, Electronic, Systems and ILS) with a view to cooperatively managing a design, where necessary.
- A very good knowledge of product development and the product lifecycle to be able to check and peer review technical drawing & documents.
- Identifies risks and opportunities, takes ownership of mitigation plans and executes.
- Understands the need for security, commercial export licences and ITAR requirements.
- Ability to deal with customers and suppliers to achieve a common goal.
- Ability to oversee a product throughout its lifecycle considering obsolescence, design, disposal and contractual obligations and champion the process for change.
- A very good knowledge of manufacturing and testing processes and procedures.
- A very good knowledge of products used in Aerospace, Land and Ground Test Equipment.
- A very good knowledge of PLM and ERP systems.
- A very good knowledge of 2D/3D drawing packages.
- Understanding of Quality systems.
- A very good knowledge of current legislation (REACH, RoHS, WEEE, CE & UKCA marking etc) and how it affects products and delivery.
