What You Will Be Doing
This is a challenging yet rewarding role within a supportive team dedicated to individuals with mental health conditions.
As a Senior Support Worker, your key responsibilities will include:
- Managing and overseeing shifts to ensure smooth operations and the wellbeing of all service users.
- Supervising support staff, providing guidance, and maintaining a structured working environment.
- Dealing with challenges or concerns thoughtfully and professionally.
- Organising engaging therapeutic and social activities to support personal development.
- Administering medication safely and accurately under clinical supervision.
- Maintaining strong communication with families, professionals, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Overseeing daily reports, budgets, and financial audits to ensure accountability.
- Conducting thorough H&S checks to maintain a safe environment.
Key Aspects of the Role
- Highly diverse and engaging—no two days are the same.
- Part of a specialist Complex Care and Recovery Service (CCRS), supporting adults with complex mental health needs (including autism, personality disorder, and long-term trauma).
- Requires a clinical background in supporting individuals with the aforementioned conditions.
- Shifts include days, nights, and weekends, ensuring a balanced team effort.
- Weekly hours: 37.5 hours (averaging 3-4 days per week, totaling 12.5 hour shifts each).

Requirements & Qualifications
To excel as a Senior Support Worker, you must have:
- Proven experience as a Senior Support Worker or extensive care experience in mental health environments.
- NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent qualification).
- Leadership skills with a strong track record in team supervision.
- Exemplary empathy and compassion—essential for building trust and supporting vulnerable individuals.
- Willingness to assist with personal hygiene support as part of holistic care.
- Outstanding people and communication skills, including conflict resolution and positive engagement strategies.
- Good humour and professionalism—able to handle challenging behaviours with resilience.
- Reliability, flexibility, and a strong work ethic.
Additional Requirements
- Must be based in the UK and have the Right to Work in the UK full time.
- Note: 20-hour Student/Part-time Work Visas are not accepted.
- Local or within commutable distance of Borehamwood/Elstree area.

Location: Barnet Lane, Elstree, Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, WD6 3QU
Barnet Lane’s Complex Care and Recovery Service (CCRS) is a specialist inpatient unit designed for adults with:
- Long-term mental health challenges.
- Complex, multi-resistant needs (stalled discharges, repeated admissions).
- Increasingly bespoke care approach beyond conventional services (e.g., beyond standard inpatient facilities).
