Senior System Engineer
Role: Senior Consultant - Systems Engineering
Salary: From £45,000 Location: Portsmouth – hybrid

Our team is dedicated to delivering high-quality, end-to-end consultancy services, ranging from risk and investment analysis to P3M (Programme, Project, and Portfolio Management). We operate across multiple sectors, including defence, energy, and health.
We are looking for a Senior Consultant to join our Systems Engineering team as we go through our next phase of growth.
Our Systems Engineering function is responsible for understanding clients’ challenges and finding solutions to their problems. Our capabilities cover the full lifecycle — from Requirements Engineering, Architecture Development, Systems Analysis, Analysis of Alternatives, Integration, Verification, Validation, and Testing, through to Sustainment, Disposal, and Replacement.
With staff that are active members of the IfSE and IET, we can provide you with technical leaders and a trusted service based on best practice, placing systems thinking and systems approaches at the heart of every project.
The Role
As a Senior Consultant, you’ll utilise your skills and expertise across the Systems Engineering lifecycle. The specifics of your responsibilities will depend on the type of task you’re deployed on.
Key activities may include:
- Leading a technical team on short-term tasks, providing clients with evidence-based analysis and recommendations to solve technical problems.
- Being deployed on longer-term, large-scale programmes, operating within a team delivering products and artefacts as part of a wider service or solution.

We deliver these services across a broad client base, including:
- UK MOD and NATO
- Other government agencies
- Wider Defence and Non-Defence industry
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the delivery of technical consulting projects.
- Designing and applying systems engineering approaches to tackle real-world challenges, leveraging expertise in:
- Requirements Management
- System Architecture
- C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance)
- Space Engineering
- Modelling and Simulation
- Communications Systems
- Developing analytical tools and techniques, including novel approaches as required.
About You
Candidates should have a proven track record in delivering engineering solutions and possess a strong understanding of:
- Systems engineering techniques and engineering management.
- The ability to develop technical solutions to address business problems.
You will need expertise in some or all of the following areas:
- Experience in:
- Space Systems
- Telecommunications and Network Systems
- Military C4I Systems
- Digital Engineering practices (e.g. Modelling and Simulation, Digital Twins)
- A formal understanding of the Systems Engineering lifecycle.
- Proficiency in Model-Based Systems Engineering, including the use of digital tools and models across the engineering lifecycle.
- Enterprise Architecture (or domain-specific architecture) and frameworks such as:
- TOGAF
- NAF
- (or equivalent alternatives)
- Requirements Engineering and familiarity with related tools, including:
- IBM DOORS
- Dimensions RM
- (or similar systems)
- Creation and management of Capability and Technology roadmaps.
- Stakeholder Management and workshop facilitation.

Additional qualities:
- Understanding and use of Service Management practices such as:
- ITIL
- eTOM
- Either a professional registration (or registration status) with a relevant professional organisation OR a willingness and commitment to pursuing such registration.

Additional Requirements
Candidates must:
- Have an existing right to live and work in the UK.
- Be willing to undergo an internal baseline personal security standard check prior to starting employment.
- Be willing and eligible to complete a United Kingdom Security Vetting application.
- To attain SC (Security Check) clearance, you will normally need at least five years’ UK residency.
