Our Automation teams deliver projects across industries such as:

Our teams in Chesterfield, Fareham, and Warrington leverage a wide range of technologies, including Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, AVEVA, and Ignition, to provide solutions such as:
- PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers)
- HMI (Human-Machine Interface)
- SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition)
- MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems)
- Batch control
- Functional safety
- OT (Operational Technology) cyber security

As part of our continued growth, we seek a Senior Systems Engineer to join the Fareham team.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Systems Engineer will:
- Drive technical delivery of complete projects in line with the agreed scope, company procedures, budgetary targets, and timeframes.
- Be pro-active, allocating tasks, supervising team members, and monitoring progress to support the Project Manager on project risks, issues, and status updates.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager and engineering team to ensure smooth execution through the agreed project lifecycle.

Core Key Activities
- Technical delivery leadership of projects.
- Close collaboration with the Project Manager on technical scope, quality, and project management.
- Task allocation to the engineering team with progress reviews.
- Ensuring technical and quality requirements are met, including adherence to company processes and procedures.
- Identifying project variations and opportunities for optimisation.
- Assisting the Project Manager in risk and issue management.
- Enhancing project efficiency through modularisation and standardisation of systems where applicable.
- Prototyping new technologies.
- Training planning and delivery.
- Mentoring junior engineers.
- Supporting automation sales and proposal teams.
- Facilitating Health and Safety through leading by example.
Functional Duties
A Senior Systems Engineer typically performs the following:
- Transitioning sales engagement to project handover.
- Contributing to the project Quality Plan with the Project Manager.
- Maintaining task and procurement lists, ensuring updates as needed.
- Conducting peer reviews of project documentation.
- Undertaking site surveys as required.
- Defining technical solutions, including:
- Outline design
- Upfront design studies
- Client requirement definitions
- Functional Design Specification (FDS)
- Design Description Specification (DDS)
- Test specification development
- Test methodology design
- Developing project modules, including:
- PLC code modules
- SCADA scripts and simulations (e.g., Mimics)
- Communication drivers
- Supporting site documentation, such as:
- Risk assessments
- Method statements
- Testing procedures
- Producing Operations & Maintenance (O&M) documentation.
- Conducting full integrated system testing, including:
- CAuT (Collaborative Acceptance Test)
- Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
- Installation support
- Identifying observations, variations, and necessary rework.
- Assisting in site installation and commissioning.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- Deep experience in the full project lifecycle, covering system specification, design, development, testing, and on-site commissioning.
- Development of detailed design documentation.
- Hands-on experience in PLC and SCADA system implementation.
- Strong background in Control Panels, Electrical Installation, and Instrumentation.
- Degree, HND, or HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Control Systems, or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards professional registration.
Desirable
- Experience with Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, AVEVA, or Ignition PLC/SCADA systems.
- Exposure to MQTT and IoT systems.
- Familiarity with historians (data logging & analysis systems).
- Experience in database implementation and management.
- Ethernet network design and configuration skills.
- Knowledge of IT hardware & software, including cloud/on-prem configurations.
- Understanding of virtualised platforms (e.g., VMware, ESXi).
- Background in OT cybersecurity.
- Exposure to Functional Safety (e.g., IEC 61511).
- Industrial protocol knowledge, including:
- OPC
- IEC 61850
- Profinet
- Modbus
