About The Role
The Senior Systems Engineer role at BAE Systems is a pivotal position focused on understanding complex customer needs and translating them into detailed, multi-level requirements. The successful candidate will develop sophisticated system architectures utilizing Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies, ensuring seamless integration, analysis, and testing of real-time systems that encompass electronic, mechanical, optical, and software components. This role requires a strong collaborative approach, as the engineer will oversee technical work packages, ensuring deliverables meet customer expectations and project standards. Additionally, the Senior Systems Engineer will verify that solutions fully satisfy client needs and will play a mentorship role, guiding and coaching junior engineers to enhance team capabilities. The position emphasizes continuous improvement by applying best practices in lifecycle processes and adopting modern approaches such as Agile and Learn First, fostering efficient and high-quality system development and evolution.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess proven experience in requirements management, design analysis, modeling, and simulation, utilizing tools such as DOORS, Siemens Polarion, Enterprise Architect, MATLAB, and Simulink. Familiarity with SysML and other design methodologies is essential. Candidates should have a strong background in liaising with customers and suppliers to verify technical requirements and ensure alignment with project goals. A relevant degree or equivalent qualification in a scientific or engineering discipline—such as Systems Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics—is required. Experience in the integration, testing, and verification of real-time and safety-critical systems is highly desirable, including an understanding of safety assessment processes and how they influence design decisions. The role demands excellent communication skills, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Responsibilities
- Understanding and analyzing complex customer needs to develop, validate, and manage requirements across multiple levels.
- Designing and developing complex system architectures and sub-systems using Model-Based Systems Engineering approaches.
- Overseeing the integration, analysis, and testing of real-time systems that incorporate electronic, mechanical, optical, and software components.
- Taking accountability for the execution of collaborative technical work packages, ensuring outcomes align with customer expectations.
- Providing guidance, mentorship, and coaching to junior engineers to foster team development and technical excellence.
- Applying lifecycle management best practices and modern development methodologies such as Agile and Learn First to improve system evolution processes.
- Engaging with customers and suppliers to verify and validate technical requirements, ensuring full satisfaction and compliance.
- Participating in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system design, integration, and testing processes.
