Senior Systems Engineer - Automation (Contract)

Role Overview
We are seeking a highly capable Senior Systems Engineer to support the delivery of critical systems within a nuclear infrastructure project. This role focuses on:
- The design
- The implementation, and
- The support of Rockwell ControlLogix PLCs.
This position requires:
- Strong expertise in PLC development
- The ability to produce and manage extensive engineering documentation in a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for technical delivery of PLC systems.
- Design, develop, and implement solutions using Studio 5000 Logix Designer.
- Integrate control systems with third-party equipment using standard industrial protocols.

Support system architecture design including:
- Redundancy,
- Resilience, and
- Cybersecurity considerations.

Produce clear technical documentation, such as:
- Design specifications,
- Test procedures,
- Operating and maintenance documentation.
- Take ownership of existing documentation and update as needed.

Deploy and test the PLC system as part of ongoing system development.

Conduct:
- System integration,
- Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and
- Customer Acceptance Testing (CAT).

Support project lifecycle management as required.

Collaborate with:
- Project Manager,
- Lead Engineer, and
- Engineering Team,
for:
- Planning activities,
- Execution,
- Progress reporting, Ensuring:
- Quality compliance,
- Alignment with timelines, while addressing blockers.

Provide health and safety leadership by example.
Essential Requirements
Minimum of 5+ years' experience in industrial automation and control systems, including:
- Rockwell ControlLogix experience.
- Studio 5000 Logix Designer expertise.
- Proven experience in:
- Design,
- Implementation, and
- Testing of PLC solutions in industrial environments.
- Strong background in:
- PLC system design,
- PLC system implementation.
- Proven experience in:
- Producing,
- Managing large-scale engineering documentation.
- Understanding of software/system lifecycle processes (design, development, testing, deployment).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Desirable Skills & Experience
- Prior experience working in:
- Nuclear,
- Defence, or
- Other highly regulated industries.
Qualifications & Personal Attributes
- A degree, HND/HNC in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent relevant engineering experience.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to handle:
- Complex systems,
- Large volumes of documentation.
- Proactive, methodical, and solution-oriented mindset.
- Strong:
- Organisational and
- Time management skills.
- Effective team collaborator with ability to:
- Work independently.
