Senior Systems Engineer II – IT Infrastructure
Ready to shape resilient, secure, and high-performing IT infrastructure in a technically demanding environment? This is a senior opportunity for an accomplished Systems Engineer II who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges, influencing technical direction, and improving platforms across cloud, datacentre, and on-premises environments.
Purpose & Scope of the Role
As a Senior Systems Engineer II, you will play a pivotal role in designing, optimising, and governing critical infrastructure across datacentre, cloud, and hybrid environments. You will:
- Help define technical direction
- Improve operational maturity
- Ensure platforms remain secure, reliable, and cost-effective
This role blends strategic oversight with deep technical delivery, supporting:
- Infrastructure architecture
- Automation
- Incident response
- Compliance governance
- Documentation
- Operational handover
- Project execution
Your Impact
You will influence the stability, performance, and future shape of core IT services by:
- Collaborating with technical teams, vendors, and stakeholders
- Identifying opportunities for system modernisation
- Reducing manual effort and strengthening governance
- Improving service resilience
- Aligning infrastructure decisions with business priorities, security expectations, operational standards, and long-term value

Technology Evaluation & Adoption Assess emerging technologies, recommend fit-for-purpose solutions, and drive adoption for operational effectiveness.

Technical Leadership & Enablement Provide clear technical direction, mentor colleagues, and facilitate knowledge transfer for smooth implementation.

Documentation, Standards & Governance Maintain technical documentation, define standards, and enforce consistent processes for compliance and quality.

Automation, Resilience & Incident Response Drive automation, optimise provisioning workflows, and enhance incident response to reduce manual intervention.

Project Delivery & Stakeholder Engagement Lead complex infrastructure projects, manage risk, budget, and timelines, and communicate effectively with stakeholders and senior leadership.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential Requirements
- Substantial senior-level experience in:
- Systems administration
- Infrastructure engineering (or equivalent role)
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent hands-on experience.
Technical Specialist Expertise
Hardware & Infrastructure
- Advanced understanding of:
- Enterprise-grade servers (e.g., Cisco UCS Chassis & Blades, Dell)
- Storage solutions (Pure, Qumulo)
- Data centre networking (Cisco switches)
Cloud & Virtualisation
- Proficiency in cloud file storage (Nasuni, Azure Files, Qumulo, Egnyte)
- AWS & Azure expertise:
- Virtual machines, storage, networking, containers (Docker)
- AI technologies
- VMware and other hypervisor environments at expert level

- PowerShell scripting for automation
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)
- Hands-on expertise with Citrix & VDA
Networking Security
- LAN, WAN, network security, firewall configuration
- Cisco networking (TCP/IP, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, Storage Zoning, FCoE)
Working Environment
- Hybrid model (primarily remote, with monthly office attendance in Slough, UK)
- Flexibility may apply based on location & operational needs
