Senior Systems Engineer

Salary - Salary is up to £75,360 + annual bonus & benefitsWork Level - 2Location - Edinburgh/NewcastleOffice Attendance - Our roles are hybrid; however, you should be able to travel to our offices as required.Closing Date - Applications close 6th July at 5pm We’re looking for a Senior System Engineer to join our Insurance Money and Services team. This is an exciting time to join as we spearhead a major strategic shift in our DevOps tooling. As a Senior Engineer, you’ll not just manage tooling; you’ll take ownership of our infrastructure, applications, and end-to-end support model. This role is unique; it blends deep technical DevOps engineering with platform engineering. You’ll act as a trusted vendor-supported platform champion, enabling and supporting developers, testers, and wider engineering teams. You’ll work alongside a collaborative team of platform specialists, reporting directly to the Engineer Lead, and collaborating closely with architecture and delivery stakeholders. This position offers an unparalleled opportunity to design modern CI/CD ecosystems and directly influence our future ways of working. What you’ll be doing Lead Cloud Migration: Drive the migration of infrastructure and applications from legacy environments into our own cloud landing zones. Own DevOps Tooling: Manage, optimize, and ensure the availability of our core toolset, including GitHub, GitHub Actions, Terraform libraries, Nexus, and Snyk. Build CI/CD Pipelines: Design, develop, and maintain robust deployment pipelines to support rapid, secure project delivery across the organization. Provide L3 Support: Act as the final technical escalation point for production applications delivered via our CI/CD toolset, ensuring rapid incident resolution. Enable Engineering Teams: Provide platform support, consulting, and access management for developers and testers to accelerate their delivery. Embed Security: Champion shifting security left by embedding Snyk vulnerability scanning and compliance checks into early code commit stages. We need you to have (minimum experience) CI/CD & Tooling Expertise: Proven experience managing enterprise DevOps tools, specifically GitHub Enterprise, GitHub Actions, and Nexus repository managers. Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Strong commercial experience writing, modularising, and managing infrastructure using Terraform. Cloud & Migration Experience: Hands-on experience building and supporting cloud landing zones, including migrating legacy infrastructure to native cloud accounts. L3 Production Support: A background in supporting complex, live applications and troubleshooting infrastructure-related issues under an ITIL or Agile framework. And if you have any of these, even better DevSecOps Practice: Experience configuring automated vulnerability scanners like Snyk directly within development workflows.Platform Engineering Mindset: Experience working in a "Platform-as-a-Product" team that services internal developer communities.Scripting Skills: Proficiency in Bash, Python, or PowerShell to automate repetitive operational tasks.Financial or Insurance Sector Experience: Familiarity with working inside highly regulated environments and adhering to strict compliance standards.
